I'm meeting my fiancee in Tahiti in November ( 14th - 22nd). I've whittled the choice of accommodation down to either La Orana or Hiti Moana Villa.

I would really like a bungalow, not too far away from markets(local preferably), restaurants and dive centre.

We intend to do a fair amount of advanced level diving there.

I would like a bit of advice about either or both pensions I have expressed a preference in, if possible!

Is that the Sofitel Ia Orana on Moorea? If so, that is definately not a pension!

And do you mean the Hiti Moana Villa on Tahiti? It's a fine place for a budget, but in no way compares to the Sofitel Ia Orana on Moorea. Two entirely completely different worlds.

curious too, did he mean the Sofitel Ia Ora on Moorea (as oppposed to Ia Orana).

Where is the La Orana, is that on Tahiti? I belive the Hiti Moana Villa is down towards Papara. A residential area, not necessarily idyllic, but suitable for a budget place for a day or two.

Jerry, try posting your question on http://www.polynesianislands.com/fp you might get more responses on pensions from that forum. Sorry, I can't help, I did not stay on Tahiti for any length of time as we went off to other islands. As for diving, do a web search for dive operators on Tahiti. Their websites should give you an idea of where they are and whether they provide a free pick up service (many of them do).

...thanks for the replies folks........much appreciated!

I think I've decided on the Hiti Moana.

Any info anyone can give me on this pension would be even more appreciated...ie. what stuff do you recommend I take with me (we are going in November), would you recommend taking a wetsuit as we are going to be doing some diving whilst we are there (mask, snorkel & fins will be packed, of course), mosquitos that time of year? bed linen? Are there adequate shopping facilities nearby (food)?

Basically I want to know everything. My partner is travelling around the world, this is the first time I will have seen her in 6 months and I want everything to be perfect for her so any info will me welcome!

Thanks again.

Jerry

No wetsuits needed as most dives include all equipment, but mosquito spray is a good idea.

I really could not think of anywhere more perfect to meet than FP. A bottle of your favourite tipple will go down a treat (booze is pretty expensive). There is nothing quite like sitting out under the stars with a a very large...in my case brandy. One of my mates met up with her boyfriend whilst she was travelling is South Africa. He'd booked them onto a Safari as a suprise and turned up with candles, her favourite body/bath products and some new underwear. Oh and some bags of walkers cheese and onion crisps. Allegedly she was all consumed with the Walkers until the rest became apparent.

Thanks ID.

Had malaria about 10 years ago.....Central America. not fun....one of those nasties that never quite goes away! Shall be doing the whole anti mozzie thing though.

New underwear....didn't think of that one.......good idea......I did end up packing her bergen for her....so she might be glad of some fresh stuff...not being a particularly seasoned traveller!!!!

Walkers crisps u say.......hahahahaha!!!

Advice about booze noted....and appreciated!....was actually thinking about "sending" the pension a case of wine.....got contacts in a wine merchant.....should see us through the 2 weeks! what we can't drink we'll leave for the staff!

May take a shortie though....only 2mm summer one!

thanks again

Thankfully no Malaria, but spending the night scratching not terribly romantic. Case of wine, how fab. Wine V expensive out there and most of the french people we met said not very good as it didn't travel that well. I doubt its flown in though, probably spends months on a cargo ship to get there. So you'll be Mr popular with a decent case of wine in tow.

Hoping for Equador on our next trip, currently trying to convince my better half it will be warm(ish) in the Galapagos. He said it looks cold and uninviting. Any tips, looking to do Galapagos for a spot of diving and then into the Jungle to one of those lodges. He thinks I need to go to Holidays Anonymous, but he wasn't complaining when we were diving with Manta Rays in FP and he won't be when we are snorkeling with penguins in the Galapagos....now where's the family silver to pay for it all !

If you have two weeks, try and get over to Moorea on the ferry, its beautiful.

very few mosquitos at Hiti Moana, the least of any place we stayed in FP. its a short drive to food stores. we spent our time longing around. Have a great time.
