Submarine:

Glad to hear the Six Continents worked out so well--and on BB too! I usually snorkel right out in front of the OWBs on the motu. It's not the best in the world, but it is not at all bad either. I will be calling Laiza soon for my late Dec-Jan reservations. Guess I better get going!

Thanks for your help Jan.

IM KLJ, if I were you, I would get the Six Continents membership instead of paying for the upgrade with your travel agent. I don't think they will give you a late checkout without it. Our first trip we had to book a day room ($150 US) as our flight didn't leave till 11 that night. 4 p.m. is perfect for most flights as you can shower just before you leave and leave your luggage at the front desk and head to the roulottes on Le Truck then come back for your transfer. We only paid for a garden room and were upgraded no problem to the Jr. Suite which took us from lowest accomodations to almost the highest with no extra charge. Quite a deal if you ask me and a good way to build customer loyalty. I booked a March trip at the $999 special and although I was dying to do Bora Bora for 5 nights, I opted for 2 nights Tahiti, 3 nights Moorea solely because the resort featured was the Beachcomber (in BB it was Le Maitai).

About the motu bungalow vs. the lagoon bungalow (jr suites): My wife actually liked the motu bungalows better even though they are about 4 meters squared smaller. Most of the motu bungalows actually have a better view of Moorea in our opinion. Plus, it's quite a hike from the jr. suites to the main pool and the restaurants, plus the 'short cut' to the parking lot and main road is up a steep hill. Not really a big deal for me as I walk a lot every day but even I felt we did a LOT of walking in FP and my wife certainly felt we did too much walking.
Any of the motu bungalows from 490 to 481 have really nice views of Moorea although currently 489 is damaged and 488 and 487 are missing. Motu bungalows have a larger lanai too. You are closer to the sand infinity pool from the overwaters, although about equidistant from the above motu bungalows mentioned and the farthest out lagoon bungalows.

Personally, I'd be happy with an upgrade to any overwater bungalow.

Anyone ever stayed in the "panoramic suite" that they only have one of?
It doesn't even show a layout in their brochure. I bet that is very nice.

IM JLK:

I prefer the motu OWBs also, although they are not as new. The swimming is excellent and they are cozy. Nice deck with 2 lounge chairs. Closer to the hotel but still private.

Submarine: No, have never stayed in the panoramic suite. I prefer the motu. The rate card price for the suite is 77.700 XFP or Euro 651,13
These rates are through Dec. 2003 only. They do seem to go up every year!

Thanks for the replies. I have been contiplating these accommodations for months now and we are leaving in less than 3 weeks...so I better make a decision soon So you think we will be pleased with the Motu OWB instead of the Lagoon OWB? Also is there a glass section in any of these OWB to view the water below? Thank you so much once again.

One more thing. If I book a garden view room through my travel agent, and purchase the Six Continents membership, will I be guarenteed a upgrade to a OWB? I would not want to get there and be disappointed.

Thanks again.

No glass bottom on any of the OWB's at Tahiti Beachcomber. I think you will be perfectly happy in any of the OWB's.
Go here to join the Six Continents Club:
http://scc.intercontinental.com/

What the terms and conditions say is that you are "guaranteed an upgrade to a superior room". What I experienced was an automatic upgrade from a garden view room to a panoramic view room in Tahiti, and an upgrade to an OWB when I asked for it. In Bora Bora I was automatically upgraded from a beach bungalow (that's the lowest they have) to a Horizon OWB. I would say if you definitely want to guarantee an upgrade, book the room the very next one down from the one you want. (i.e., book a panoramic room if you want a Motu OWB). That way, you are guaranteed the higher accomodation per the terms and conditions. It seems to me that they take this program seriously as they should, however, it should probably be considered going above and beyond the guaranteed benefits if they upgrade you from the lowest grade accomodations to the highest. These type of programs are designed to build customer loyalty, and as an unhappy member of the Hilton HHonors program for over 5 years now, I will be selecting an Intercontinental/Holiday Inn hotel or resort whenever possible from now on.

The other nice thing about the Six Continents club is that your reservation is already filled out for you and waiting and all you have to do is verify and sign at the front desk. You get a free weekend night stay certificate with your membership good for six months (valid for a fri/sat or sat/sun night stay) so keep that in mind when making your reservations.

I agree with Submarine. To be insured of a OWB, you might want to request the Panoramic Room.

But better yet, get your Six Continents member # (which you should do on-line quickly) and TELEPHONE reservations at the hotel. Depending on how full they are--they will upgrade--always to the next level room, sometimes more.
