I do feel terribly sad for you all in Moorea with this problem. In this area of Massachusetts we ended up using a BB gun to take out unwanted street lights. It worked very well. Town could not keep up with us. Then we could see the fireflies--and bats at night.
One does need the moon shadows for walking.
