#58177 - 03/01/04 06:29 AM Connecting flight on America West to LAX
Anonymous Unregistered

We are flying out of LAX on Monday, May 24th at 11:45 pm on ATN. If we take a connecting (nonstop) flight from Boston to LAX arriving at 8:25 pm, will that give us enough time to make the flight? From the LAX website, it looks like AW is at Terminal 1 and ATN us at terminal 5. Also, Does anyone know if AMerica West can check baggage allthe way to PPT?

America West has checked luggage through to ATN and Papeete in the past, but the security rules may have changed since last time we went (December), so it's best to call AW and ask. I have heard recently that they will no longer check your luggage through to a domestic carrier when you return to LAX. After going through customs, you must take your luggage yourself to your local carrier, which adds time to the checkin process because you have to stand on the X-Ray line at AW.

Three hours is the recommended time for checkin with ATN, and it often takes all of that time to get through all the lines. You should be fine if there are no delays from Boston and if AW lets you check your luggage through, may even have a little time to grab a bite to eat and shop in the duty-free store.

Unless ATN has recently moved, it flies out of the Tom Bradley International Terminal. It's an easy 5 to 10 minute walk from Terminal One, where AW arrives. The LAX terminals form a big "U" -- terminal one is at the left top of the "U" and the international terminal is at the bottom curve of the "U" -- Just turn right when you exit from the building There is also a free shuttle between terminals.

Remember that, although ATN has a 70-pound limit on your luggage, AW has recently instituted a 50-pound limit, so don't pack heavy or you will pay excess baggage charges!

Bon voyage!
