We,family of four, will be arriving into Tahiti at 11:30 pm. We want to take the 9 am Moorea Express Ferry to Moorea and get to the Pearl Beach Hotel. We will than fly back into Tahiti a couple days later to catch a cruise. Can someone please advise me which hotel would be the best to stay in for the few hours we are in Tahiti ... (close to the ferry building). We don't care about the hotel's property since we will only be there to sleep. We would like to only get one room with 2 double beds for the night. Also, do all the ferries take off at the same place? Can I buy ferry tickets on line, and if so what time should we arrive at the ferry terminal to catch the 9am ferry? Can we catch le truck in Moorea at the ferry terminal to bring us to our hotel? Thanks in advance for your help.

One more question .... Is there any way to get to Moorea at midnight therefore avoiding the Tahiti Hotel altogether?

Either the Hotel Tiare or Le Mandarin are two good choices. Le Mandarin has some larger rooms that would accommodate 4 people. Both hotels are within a ten minute walk from the ferry dock. You buy the tickets at the ticket counter - costs about 10-12 dollars one way and no reservations are taken. Be there about 15-minutes before hand and you should be OK. Also, there is no way to get to Moorea from Papeete off of a late arrival.

Thanks GT. I think we will try Le Mandarin. What is the best way to get from the ferry in Moorea to the Pearl Beach hotel? Is there a coupon I can buy at the ferry building in Tahiti for transportation to our hotel in Moorea?

mkel: "Is there any way to get to Moorea at midnight therefore avoiding the Tahiti Hotel altogether?" Depends on what flight and what day your arrive. There are late night flights to Moorea. However, the cost is so high for a party of 4 (8000cfp per person round trip) that you'd best just spend the night in Papeete. As GT has stated, Hotel Tiare or Le Mandarin are two good choices.

There are no coupons for ferry transfers. Le Truck is 300cfp per person and will meet every ferry arrival in Moorea. The other alterantive is a taxi, or pre-arranged transfer with an outfit like Alberts Transports.

Thanks Edkocher. Is Le Truck reliable or would you recommend pre-arranging a transfer with Albert Transports?

Le Truck is very reliable. It meets every ferry arrival in Moorea. One bus runs clockwise to the west side fo the island, the other bus runs counter-clockwise to the west side of the island.
I personally would not do this when dragging along a lot of luggage though.

Wow edkocher you are a wealth of information! What do you think a cab would cost the four of us (ferry building to Pearl resort). I am hoping to leave at least half our luggage at the airport and pick it up when we return to Tahiti a few day later before boarding the ship so we shouldn't have that much luggage. I think I remember reading that the transfer service is about $5 -$6/person, so we are already looking at about 20 -25 dollars.
