It is TRUE, Polynesia is addictive. We were last September visiting Rangiroa, Tahaa, Raiatea and Bora Bora. I really loved ALL.
But for diving our big fav was Rangiroa. And Tahaa is ...the best place in the WORLD BUT once in a lifetime kind of thing.
So this time, we want to go back, we are thinking around 12 nights, 7 in Rangiroa ( I can't never get enough of diving there!) and then I have big doubts on where to go next:
Fakarava or Huahine or Moorea?
Is Moorea too turisty???
Any tips??
I love this forum, thank you so much!!! \:\)
HAPPY POLYNESIA TRIPS!!!!

We stayed at a pension on Fakarava where everyone but us were divers. They all said the diving it was fantastic.

Syanae, same here. We are planning to go back in April next year. Can anyone make the ranking for best diving among these 3 islands: Bora Bora, Fakarava and Rangiroa? I only did the 2 tank dive launched by Bora Dive at Bora Bora and found it just ok.

Thanks for the info Marshamouse!

Have you been to Rangiroa Peter?

I know for sure that Rangiroa has the BEST diving, no doubt, and then very close either Fakarava or Tikehau. Bora Bora is good for the MAnta Point, but it feels a little overrunned to me. At the time we where there, there were 4 boats ... I think the mantas were quite tired of so many divers... and it was late september that theoretically it is a little bit low season for the Retour a l'Ecole in France.
My question is not so much about where is the best diving, I am sure Rangi is the best. But more to combine it with, to do/see something different.
How nice is Huahine? or Moorea??
Thank you ALL!

Huahine is great, very quiet and relaxing. Moorea is fun, lots to do there and actually the diving in Moorea is pretty darn good, nowhere near Rangi, of course, but nice. Plus Moorea features some nice restaurants and is a high island, very dramatic.

Now all I need to find is flight tickets and off we go! ;\)

I will let you know what I can find, for sure we are going for 1 week to Rangiroa then
Moorea so far is the favorite option. we shall see what we can find.

Happy Polynesia !! ;\)

Fakarava gets my vote for the place I most want to visit next!

Huahine gets my vote for the best value and place that comes closest to letting you see what it might be like to live there. If you really loved Taha'a (the island, not the resort, I was there before the resort opened) you'll love Huahine, it is most similar but with a more dramatic blue multi-colored lagoon. And we spent longer there and really got to know her better.

Moorea gets my vote for dramatic lush jagged peaks nestled in Cook's Bay and for convenience both in terms of getting there and getting around once there.

That said I have been to Tahiti, Moorea, Taha'a, Raiatea, & Huahine. Plan to visit Fakarava, Rangiroa, Raiavae, Tubuai, Marquesas and maybe Bora Bora on our next one (or two) trips. With a stop in either Huahine or Moorea before coming home.

Good luck deciding, though in my opinion you really can't go wrong.
