The Sofitel was our favorite, and we would go to your island by kayak. What an incredible spot! I can't remember-is it the sunrise or the sunset that is absolutely divine at your spot?

The sunrise is fabulous - right opposite the motu on the ocean side (though the sunrise is pretty amazing too...). I've put a few photos online, if you're interested :

Thank you, Excellent! I remember quite a few rays out your way when we used to stay at the Sofitel. Do you see them now also?

I've never been, but I have a neighbor who travels to FP by herself every year and stays at a Club Med. She is about your age and is not into partying. I think she might eat meals at off times to avoid the crows. I've also seen other people traveling solo at other FP destinations. Not all places are a crush of honeymooners.
If it were me, I'd want a locked door, for just the reasons you outlined. Perhaps you could rent an apartment?

holte, You are right about the rays - and there are still plenty - both stingrays & spotted leopard rays.

mahare, thank you for the information on your facility. I looked at your pictures, and it does look exactly like what I'd imagined! Sorry for the late response; I haven't logged into this site for a while. Unfortunately, due to several issues, I've decided not to go to Huahine on this trip. My main destination is Easter Island, and I've decided to spend the rest of my available time in Moorea when I return to FP from EI. My decision was based on the timing of my trip (just before the outrigger race from Huahine to Bora Bora), and the possibility that the Monday boat from Tahiti to Huahine had stopped running. I don't want to add an inter-island flight to my itinerary for both money and timing reasons (I don't use a travel agent). But thanks again for the information, and I can see that all the other forum members were glad to get it as well. I will keep this in mind if (when?) I come back to FP for a second trip.
