Has anybody stayed at Vahine Island and have pictures I can see? I have looked at their website, but want to see "real" travelers photos. Also, any thing I should know about Vahine Island that's not on the website....I am just planning/researching so far, haven't made reservations yet. Thanks so much!

Our friends stayed on Vahine Island last year and we saw quite a few of their pictures. I'll see if I can get a few pics from them. Having looked at their website just now and remembering their pictures, I think the only difference is that the website pictures are taken on the most ideal weather days, when the clouds were few, sun shining brightly, and the water very calm. Often times in FP, the weather is going to be a little less ideal than what you see in the pictures (e.g., clouds and rain and slightly rougher lagoon). Our friends raved about this place and gave it a thumbs up despite a few days of cloudy weather and some rain. Based on the pictures we saw, we would stay there without question. If I get some of their pictures, I'll come back here and give you the appropriate link. They said that Vahine Island wasn't in the same league as the Hotel BB (where they stayed afterwards) but yet it had its own charm and was just very intimate and quiet. They stayed in the farthest OWB at Vahine.

BTW, the photos for most of those on the Vahine website photo gallery were taken by a photographer that we met and know while staying at Raimiti in Fakavara while he was taking pictures for that pension's website. Eric is a phenomenal action and still-life photographer and has the very best equipment that money can buy. The quality of his pictures are just going to out-do anything that the average joe or josephine will take with standard issue photo equipment.
What I can tell you is that the photos he takes with his professional equipment and the way he composes them will provide a litte bit of over-natural vibrancy and "mood" based on what I saw him shoot at Raimiti and what he actually posted on the Raimiti website and on his own photo website (tahiti-imagebank.com); and that's not necessarily bad. Some of the photos for the Vahine Island seem to be taken with the same or similar special kind of lens (I'm guessing a form of fish-eye lens - any my apologies if I'm using the incorrect terminology) that he used at Raimiti and that makes images and the subject matter look "bigger than life" than a standard lens and while also using polorizing filters to sharpen the natural colors. Some of the sunset pictures may be somewhat enhanced digitially but that seems to be standard in travel brochuers and websites - and I don't know if he did that on the Vahine website - your guess is as good as mine. In short, his pictures are going to give you the best foot forward on what the locale actually looks like during the best weather conditions but I'm sure you already know that.
I guess the short of the matter is that once you actually get yourself down there to Vahine Island and see everything for yourself, I think you'll say (like what many of us say here) that the photos you see on a website of French Polynesia - even if taken professonally - still can't do justice to the natural beauty and colors that your eye will see and that your body will experience once you are actually there. Just my personal and humble thoughts and opinion. Sorry for rambling on.

We've stayed there 3 times and have lots of pictures of the grounds, bungalows and food. Send me your email and any questions and I'll respond.

I have five pics. Email me at rodjune at yahoo dot com if you'd like to see these and put Vahine Island as the subject line. The files are very large (about 6mb total for all five).
