I have a trip booked for next year to Le Taha'a and was worried about the recent reports, so I contacted my travel agent. She emailed her local office in Tahiti, and one of the agents wrote back. Basically, the local agent was there the week Le Taha'a opened with 5 other couples. She said the water was very clean and they all thought the snorkeling was amazing. She also said no one had a problem with bugs. She said that Le Taha'a is her favorite resort, and that after being there this time and seeing the renovations, she doesn't want to stay at any other properties. Maybe the difference in experiences has to do with the rains the week after she was there?

I also asked my agent about Thalasso, thinking that if Le Taha'a isn't back to what it was the last time I was there, I'd want to go to a new resort. The local agent said that while she loves the Thalasso spa, she was not a big fan of the resort because it has "nothing Polynesian to it," and felt it was very "sterile" without any charm, warmth or coziness. She did indicate it was very modern and trendy, and that is just not her style. She acknowledged that others have loved it, though.

I tend to like the more Polynesian feel of things, and smaller boutique resorts, which is why I didn't book Thalasso to begin with, and why I stay at the Moorea Pearl instead of the Sheraton. I worry that Bora Bora is overcrowded with resorts, with several all in a row. Although I have to say, I love the look of the Thalasso spa, which might just sway me to go there someday.

Anyway, I just thought I would pass this information along.

Zoe - I think I misspoke.. the new Royal Suites being built at LeT are beach villas, not OWB's. Recent press releases from resort suggest mid-June completion.

That is definitely nice to hear that the water was clean and the snorkeling was nice when your contact was there... I am curious to see more Taha'a pics. The lagoon there looks nice from what I have seen, but doesn't seem to look as nice as BB's.

I hope all the renovations are done by the time we are there in July, I really do not want to see construction going on while there. Does anyone know what kind of updates they done on the OWB's. Sounds like it is soft renovations but I am wondering if there are trying to do a little more with all the new competition.

Hello NYchic
I am planning on spending a few days at LeTaha'a on my upcoming trip to FP.
I have been following posts on that resort for a while and especially your posts on TA since you returned. Reading your various opinions on the resort, I can't quite make out if you are complaining about the Hotel or the Environment. dirty water, flies and a rat, loud people at the bar are all things that the Hotel can't possibly be made responsible for. Have you ever given a thought to, that continious posts of this kind with people now thinking about changing their mind and not staying at LeTaha'a can be extremely harmful to the resort? I respected your opinion once & twice, now I no longer get your point, that actually varies from post to post. Please do the managment of LeTaha'a favor and issue a formal complaint and possibly suggestions how you think these problems can be resolved. My experience in FP is that if you mention a problem as a guest the staff will scramble if in their power to please the guests. It seems so unfair to laugh and smile while there, as you have mentioned in your posts, and then post such damaging statements. You are entitled to your opinion, but for how long do you feel a need, to bring up your disappointing choice. Yes, obviously it was just a wrong choice for you after the IC Thalasso, but please can you leave it at just that?

Wow....am I the only one who things "ynotsmile" is an employee of Le Taha'a??? Interesting to me that you just joined these forums to respond to my posts!?!?!?!

Anyway - freedom of speech! I wanted to give my honest opinions and people had questions on my opinions so I did my best to answer them. I am not in any way trying to get people to cancel their plans. If you read all my posts you would see me telling people not to do that and to still go and see for themselves!

And as I said before - I am not a complainer. I realize it is just nature - I saw a large rat at an outdoor restaurant. What were they going to do about it? Nothing. I didn't want to complain and seem like a snob. I said we had fun - lighten up. I was just giving my opinions.

NYCC- I got the same feeling about the posts...

honestly this is a forum (as is TA) for people to be able to discuss their positive AND negative experiences at a resort and that may obviously differ from one person to the next. That is what makes these forums helpful. Through reading through different peoples perspectives and experiences, as well as talking to your Travel Agent and being honest about ones own expectations, a decision can be made to make your stay in paradise what you want it to be.
I am happy that there are people that are honest about their experiences because that may help the next traveler to the destination.

Tis fishy that those were the only posts responded too, but don't underestimate the power of what you are typing. There was a small eco-pension named Eden Beach on Bora that really had a lovely location but poor service. (It would be looking at the Thalasso.) It was run by some Hippy French people who received so much bad press from this (and other sites) that it was pretty much ran out of business.
In mid summer last year some guy went to the Tiki Village on Moorea, and in his trip report wrote that he got ripped off. From reading his whole trip report you would have assumed that he came home naked because everything was stolen from him and that he absolutely hated it. Now he was from the NYC metro area, so he should have been able to recognize a tourist trap when he saw one but saying that he was ripped off implies that something was stolen from him and is dramatically different from saying that the dinner was over priced. When questioned more specifically about the trip, he said he and his wife did have a good time and liked it but felt that it was overpriced. (Duh!) He eventually admitted that his expectations were over inflated. Think of the damage that his post could do in the future because the reader doesn't have the other information about the trip. When NYCChic said that the water was dirty- I'm sure it was an honest reaction but are you talking Missouri River dirty or simply cloudy from the rain or sediment? The reader can't see what you saw and the comments took on a new life of their own. I'm sure some reservations were canceled when they were probably fine.
What you type here lives forever, and will effect the locals who work at the hotels for a long, long time after they've spent the paycheck your stay provided for them. Be honest, because that's why we are all here but use some care.

I completely disagree. I think NYCchic was honest about her feeling
about Le Tahaa and there is absolutely nothing wrong about expressing it.
I've never thought that place can back up their prices, the location seems
quite average comparing to Bora Bora... My good friends went there last year
for a week and I was honestly surprised to see their pictures and listen
to their report, surprised how average it seems to be. Remember this is the place
which charges up to $2000/night if you want to stay in an OWB. You have
full rights to have high expectations and have full rights to be disappointed
when you compare it to other high end places, Thalasso in this case.
I think there is way to many over-hyped reports here and not enough honest
opinions. People spend a lot of money for (often) their trips of the lifetime,
so they won't admit any disappointments. They should.
I was a victim of the over-hyped reports from Huahine here and got attacked
because I was not afraid to say what I thought about Pension Mauarii.
Thanks NYCchic for your report.
We are coming back in July and we will only stay in one place - the Thalasso
hotel. That's my little paradise found :)
