I always enjoy going to locations and the first thing you see as you exit the plane is smiling faces as you join the immigration line, and a warm reception from the locals as you leave the airport. Of course, that is just a start, but what I really want to know from the members is where are some of the places you've been that have such friendly people?

FP was pretty cool all around - everybody was friendly..
Mexico (flying into Cancun) is usually pretty stressed out - just too busy.. The people get much nicer the farther down the coast you go - we usually stay about 60 miles south of Cancun..
Flying into Cozumel isn't much better - both Cozumel and Cancun just have too many people coming and going and everybody is usually pretty stressed..
Belize was a trip.. Flying into Belize City was like flying into Vietnam.. We had to spend the night there before heading out to our island and we never felt very safe. We were also abandoned at the airport alone as our connection didn't show up..
Jamaica in '91 was fairly cool and the people pretty friendly. Course they all wanted to sell me pot.. They can get pushy at times, but just saying the word "respect" usually calms them down..
Have flown into Europe many times - all over the place from Norway to Germany to Italy to Switzerland to Sweden.. but those arn't tropical places and I didn't speak enough of the languages to know what the people were actually saying to me haha

French Polynesia hands down has the friendliest people of anywhere I have visited.
On Easter Island is where we met the friendliest tourists.
I recently visited Germany on a business trip, and found most of the people to be very friendly and helpful toward a non-German speaking American.

The friendliest people we've met have been those in French Polynesia and Australia.

Of the places I've been, I'd have to agree on the people in FP. But the people I met in Ireland were pretty darn friendly too.

I would say FP as well. We have had great trips to other places and still visit people in Mexico that we made friends with over 5 years ago. We were actually invited in to a house on Huahine while walking because we looked warm to people actually working outside. They treated us to wonderfull lunch and told us to stop back by any time.

Smiling faces as you join the immigration line??? Are you talking about the people in line or the immigration/customs people?? The customs people are some of the rudest, unfriendliest people I've ever seen, no matter where I go! Now the other people in FP are definitely friendly, but I would say hands down, the most friendly I've met are in Hawaii.

I like Costa Rica for it's friendly people. They have a saying "Pura Vida", which literally translates to "pure life", but it describes their attitudes down there. They're just really happy people who really enjoy life. Additionally, what's nicer about Costa Rica than some of the other Latin American countries we've been to is that they really work hard to keep the country clean... Thanks to travelervideos.com They have a great collection of videos. I get all my travel tips from this resource.

Samoa - REALLY nice people, FP (especially if you make an effort to speak Tahitian), Fiji are probably on par with Samoa as the friendlist, Vanuatu - same, Niue they are fairly relaxed (but spirits a little damaged after the category 5 cyclone in 2004). But I'd say Samoa and Fiji, just ahead of FP.

Jake mentioned friendly people in Australia. I haven't been to Australia yet, but everywhere I've travelled have met very friendly Australians that I am still in contact with . . . lots of places to stay when I eventually make it to Australia.
