Ok... so we landed at the Moorea Airport and there was a large bus to take us to the Sheraton Moorea. There were probably 50 people on the bus and we were the only ones that got out at the Sheraton. We got out and they checked us in immediately. This was the last day of rain for our whole trip. We were in OWB #82 which was the middle of the three forks of the OWB's. I guess I will take this opportunity to go over room selection. I know TONS of people on this board are obsessed with rooms 109 and 108. First off, these are "premium OWB's" which mean that they are at the end of the line. I never understood what the "premium" meant until we arrived. I didn't request any room #'s and we were very happy with #82. I actually don't understand the hype of the end rooms. What we noticed (since we were in the middle tier and faced 109 and 108) is that there is probably LESS privacy in those end rooms. There is a small sitting area beyond those rooms and I noticed 5-10 people walking to the end and sitting on that dock watching the sunset. Anyway, the room was very nice and spacious. The snorkeling there was also the best out of the OWB's we stayed in. The only disappointment is that the reef is all man made. I am sure if the other hotels spend the money, they can make an even better reef. It kind of defeated the purpose that it was man made but it was still beautiful and amazing to be able to see all the fish right outside your room. The walk from #82 to the main lobby was about 7 minutes. I know there was some concern about the service at the Sheraton. The ONLY issue our whole stay there was having lunch at the beach bar. There were 2 couples sitting before us and then a TON sat down after us and EVERYONE had their meals before us. We waited 45 minutes for our burgers. Not sure if she forgot to put in our order or what but that was the only issue and it wasnt a big deal at all. The breakfast buffet was ok. All of them at each hotel were basically the same except the coffee kept getting stronger during our trip. By Tahaa, we were drinking espresso with milk. We never ate dinner there but we had lunch a few times and it was consistantly good. The most pathetic part of our stay was that my husband brought only 5 pairs of boxers and he wanted to get them laundered (FYI, bring a small laundry detergent with you). We ended up laundering his 5 boxers, 2 t-shirts and 2 pairs of jeans and it was 6200. It was EXTREMELY ridiculous to spend that kind of money on that but we had no choice at the time. (The next day I bought some detergent in town). The Sheraton also had a small pearl shop (that was WAY over priced as well as a small gift/sundry shop). The pool was very nice but we didnt go in since we had the amazing snorkeling. We did a lot of amazing activities on Moorea. One day we did the Torea Nui 4X4 Safari (561248). We booked that through the hotel the day before. It cost 8800 for both of us for a 1/2 day tour. The tour only had another couple on it from CA. They were really nice. The tour went around the island. We went to a pineapple plantation, a juice factory, a lookout with an amazing view and ruins from an old marae (where people once lived). That night for dinner we took a suggestion from the Jan Prince book. All in all, I think the book is good. Has a lot of great information. I do think that Jan Prince is a bit out of reality since she has been living in FP since the early 70's. One of her "off the beaten path" suggestions was AITO's. I think the review was this small cozy, fun atmosphere. I asked the front desk to make a reservation for me (which I was charged 300 on my bill for) and AITO himself picked us up, waited on us, cooked and took us back. When we got there we sat right on the edge of the water. The table had a plastic tablecloth (which was TOTALLY fine because it was LAID BACK) but what freaked me out a bit were the 1000 mosquitoes swarming around the light which was 3 feet above us. He gave us a menu but said he only had shark, lobster or mahi-mahi (which is fine too, we love fish). So we ordered the infamous "poisson cru" which to remind you guys it is the raw tuna with onions and coconut milk. I ordered the lobster and my husband ordered the shark with coconut sauce. He brought us bread and butter which was fine and then he brought the poisson cru. It definitely wasnt tuna but it was another fish and it was ok. My husband ate most of it. Then the meals came. My lobster was small and a bit undercooked but it was ok. My husband got 2 HUGE pieces of shark. Both dishes came with mixed veggies and rice. His pieces were SO big (take your hand and put your fingers together). There were 2 pieces that size. I am a fast eater so I was done with my lobster in 5 minutes. My husband ate one of the big pieces of shark and the rice and veggies and he was stuffed. So, Aito came to clean up and he saw that my husband "didnt finish" and told him he would come back when he was done. So basically he HAD to finish his meal. It was like an episode of fear factor, my husband and I had to scarf down the shark so we can leave. We were never at all rude, we actually thought it was funny. We finally finished, got the check and Aito drove us back to the Sheraton. It was a 5 minute drive. Next thing you know, my husband is in major pain. To make a long story short, he was stomach sick for almost 2 days. He had a bad case of the runs. We think it might have been the poisson cru (since he ate most of it) but in Aito's defense, it could have been anything. I would stay away but its obviously our opinion. The next activity/dinner we did was Tiki Village. We planned that through the hotel as well. It was 19320 for both of us for dinner, the show and the transportation. The bus picked us up at 6pm and it took 35 minutes to get there. All in all, it was ok. I would probably suggest doing just the show as it was a LONG night. We didnt get out of there until 10:15pm. We got there and they gave us a pineapple juice and then did a small tour of the place (the pearl shop, the various little exhibits). Then at 7:45pm, we ate. The food was so so. It did the trick for being polynesian food but it was ok. The best was when we sat with a couple from England and they were like, the food's not so bad.... that was a kiss of death since England is known to not have the best food. Then, after dinner, they did a small PAREO show. They had a woman first, and then a man dance while they put a pareo on many different ways. That took place where dinner was served. Then, we all moved into the show arena and the show took place. A small piece of advise..... the show takes place in this small arena area with bench seating. The seats were pretty dirty. I saw some women decked out to the 9's. I would suggest dressing VERY casual. Before the show, they had the women come on the stage and do a little dance. Then the men came out afterwards. It was cute if you like that touristy stuff. All in all, the show was nice. Nice to see the fire stunts and all but it was TOTALLY touristy. I think it should be done at least once but that is it. The funny part to me was that a white man from Europe was in charge. He is probably making a small fortune. There were probably 60 people there the night we went. At 10000 a person, not too bad to make 600000 a night XPF! Another day we got a shuttle service from the hotel to one of the two shopping villages in Moorea. The cost was 2200 for both of us round trip. The "Petit" village was about 25 minutes away. They dropped us off at 12:20pm and picked us up at 3pm. That was PLENTY of time. We went to this GREAT place for lunch. I am not sure of the name but it was a blue awning and it said INTERNET CREPERIE. We ordered burgers (shocker) and chocolate ice cream. A note on the burgers in FP. They all came with that Big Mac sauce on it so if you dont like that, I would tell them in advance. In the village they also had a car rental, a few pearl shops and a grocery type store. We actually bought a pearl ring from a wonderful woman at Pai Moana Pearls. She was the most honest and least pressure pearl saleswoman on the island. She set my pearl on my ring while we were having lunch. The # there is 562525 and the website is http://www.black-pearl.com. I would highly suggest it. By the time it was done, it was 3pm and we caught the shuttle back to the Sheraton. This was our last night and we had the best dinner on our trip at Te Honu Iti. 561984. Actually this reminds me of the only other issue at the Sheraton. I called the front desk earlier in the day to have them make me a reservation at 7pm. When we got to the lobby, we waited about 10 minutes and we find out that the hotel never make the call. Ends up that the restaurant picked us up right away and we were off. It was a 7 minute ride from the Sheraton. We sat at the railing and fed the stingrays and fish all night. It was really nice. The service was ok but the food was amazing. We each had steak (my husband had a burgundy sauce, I had a roquefort sauce) and it was delish. We also had this apple tart for dessert, it was great. The bill was 12500 and the place actually wrote "tips appreciated" so we left 15000. The only downer was that we had to wait for a ride back. We probably waited about 20 minutes for the ride. It was fine. We woke up the next morning and had breakfast and then got on the shuttle for the airport. The trip back to the airport took about 30 minutes. There were a number of people on our bus back to the airport. We got our boarding passes and got on the plane to Bora Bora. This one was a much bigger plane than the one to Moorea. The only negative is that we had to stop at Huahine and then head to BB. That kind of sucked but thats life.... Definitely sit on the left side of the plane for this one. Also, the airline was weighing the bags. The limit is 44 lbs per bag. One carry on per person doesnt count towards that. We were fine. The flight with the stop in Huahine took about 45 minutes. 25 minutes to Huahine and then another 15 to BB. Off we go.......
***SUMMARY*** Do Tiki Village but skip the dinner and go to the show directly. Skip Aito's and definitely do Te Honu Iti Make restaurant reservations by yourself (300 per call from the Sheraton). The hotel is going to charge you for the call anyway. Plan all your activities ONCE you are there. In most cases, there will be no problem Bring laundry detergent and Pepto Dont fret about room requests, each room is amazing (and private) **** One last thing I didnt mention. If you stay at the Sheraton or Nui, get a starwood # and bring it with you. I forgot mine and it was a big hassle for them to find it for me. So much easier if you bring it. I wanted it because I was staying at the Sheraton and the Nui so I wanted to points!!!!! Stay tuned for my BB trip report.....
