One night near airport

I was looking for one night in PPT, before catching a flight the following afternoon. My flight gets in at 3am, then I've a 1pm flight to Maupiti. Any recommendations? It'll be myself and my wife, and our needs are simple for that one night---a clean bed, shower, and safety. Any thoughts?

There's a new hotel right across the street from the airport. We're staying there in November (we fly in at 9:30 p.m. and fly out at 11 a.m.). It's called the Tahiti Airport Motel and you can book it directly yourself (in fact, they wouldn't reply to my Canadian travel agent's 3 inquiries). Here's the website:

I should add that people who've been there say it's a steep hike up to the hotel. We're going to check our "checked" baggage in the storage spot in the parking lot & hike up with our backpacks (that we use for carryon luggage). In the morning, we'll check out of the hotel, take Le Truck to Papeete to check out the market & walk around, and then take Le Truck back, get our checked luggage & catch our flight to Moorea (all this assuming we're up early...and we should be since we're coming from the Eastern Time Zone).

Would it easier to cab it from the airport to the Tahiti Motel then? (I just got a room for one night there, before leaving for Maupiti).

It would be easier (I expect there are cabs sitting there waiting for fares when your plane lands). We're frugal and, even though we're approaching 50, we'll still hike it! I think someone said it was at least $20US to take a cab (seems steep for such a short distance to me).

Take a look at the picture gallery on http://www.tahitiairportmotel.com/tam.htm There are a few photos were you can see how close it is to the airport. There has been discussion about the hike in other topics, so a search will help also. I wouldn't even consider a cab, it's just up the hill. There are many views of this I guess. The amount of your baggage will probably play a part, too :) And still one final point that the baggage storage will easily wind up to that $20, so it doesn't really matter what you do...

I figure the baggage storage is closer to $12 (isn't it $6 per item...or is it more now)? Anyway, we want to pop into Papeete the next morning & couldn't manage having our check bags with us there. Hmm...I wonder if we could leave them at the motel? But then we'd have to drag them up there!

I think you guys are right...if we manage to take just what we need for the night, we can easily store our luggage at the airport. Afterall, we'd need to come back the following morning for the Maupiti flight anyway. The Maupiti flight is at 1pm (give or take)...you guys reckon we should be at the airport to check in by 12noon?

I think noon should be good, pbutala. We're taking our usual stuff in our carryon (passport, travel documents, paperbacks, camera) as well as a change of underwear and t-shirt....my husband has those unzip pants/shorts & I'm hoping to get some so we just have to stash the leg parts in our backpacks, too). And we'll have a small amount of toiletries (mini toothpaste, toothbrushes, brush & deodorant). That amount of stuff won't bother me if we have to carry it around Papeete. We're planning to grab Le Truck to go in & walk around check out the shopping and the people.
