I haven't seen many posts regarding tattoos, and I apologize if there are some and this is repetitive, so I figured I'd share some first-hand info. My husband and I, 2 weeks ago, got tattoos on Bora Bora. We had them done at the spa at the Bora Bora Pearl by a very talented artist named Herenui. All his work is free-hand and all his own, original drawings. Very clean, very sterile and I cannot compliment his talents enough.

Do you remember how much it cost? Also, would love to see pictures of the tattoos!

My husband had his done by Fati (near the Sofitel and the Le Moana-- just across the road, mountainside, from Marama) about two years ago and it was $100/hour. That was also the rate that the Moorea Pearl's artist was charging.

Did any of you pre-book your appointment, or did you simply call when you got to Bora Bora?

I was trying to put a link to our tattoo pics on here but I am not very computer savvy, so I'll have to wait until my husband gets home from Atlanta on Friday! Sorry! Herenui's prices were very comparable to prices here on the East Coast,if not a bit cheaper than some of the trendier places. We paid about (this a rough estimate since the dollar isn't very stable)$500/US for both of ours and 2 bottles of Temanu oil to keep them moist. Sean's took about an hour and a half and mine took about an hour. We didn't prebook our appointments, as a matter of fact, we drove all over Moorea looking for a place that was open and never found one. Our first day on Bora at the Pearl, we were having lunch and this guy walked by with a fresh tattoo so we asked where he got it and he pointed us to the spa. The front desk booked it for us. We are both very pleased with our new "ink", especially since it's 100% original work and I will never see the exact same artwork on anyone else. Unlike the one on my lower back that I got here in Jersey and I've seen it on 3 other girls in the exact same spot! Hopefully I'll be able to post pics soon!

We didn't prebook my husband's either of the two times (he had one done in Moorea at the Moorea Pearl's spa as well). We originally tried to get him in to see Marama in Bora Bora-- the hotel called repeatedly (no reply and he didn't return his voice mails), so we went down the street and-- literally-- stood in his doorway for twenty minutes. He never even looked up from the customer he was working on. So we gave up and went across the street to Faty.
Faty had openings-- no problem. And he acknowledged us when we walked in ;) I suspect that it's the luck of the draw as to whether or not you need a rezzie. We're going to try and make one this week for July, since we're leaving on the day of Heiva (oops... I'd be guessing that not everyone is working that day).

I went to Fati last June and I pre-booked (June being the high season). I was very impressed with Fati, in fact I am going back to him this November to get ALOT more work done by him (expecting 12hrs this time). See attached photo of mine. I would totally recommend him.

Wow, 12 hours! What are you having done? Love the one you have. We both have manta's. Mine is on the inside of my right forearm and my husband's is on the back of his right calf. I'm already planning my next tattoo and of course that is a great excuse to return to FP! Hopefully my next post will have a link to a photo!

I love the Manta, Gary. Really beautiful. Curious as to what you're having done in November.

If you have a close look at the tat, you'll see two sharks, a turtle and a gecko, with traditional Marquesan symbols of tiki ears, eyes and noses. I intend to get MANY more mantas incorporated into a hammerhead shark (with the hammer forming over my shoulder from my right chest over my shoulder to the right shoulder-blade). The tail fin should finish on my right forearm. I'll definitely post a couple of photos when it's done. I promised Fati that he will be the only tattooist that will ever tattoo me (because of the work he has already done). I have a friend here in Australia that is a tattooist, and he agrees that it is wise to stick with the same guy if you want to be tattooed - not just get a tattoo.
