hola guys...(what's the word for hi in Tahitian?)
Okay, so I need help. I have one bugging issue. (actually, I have many, but there's only one I can get help from in here ;-)
I'm looking at the Intercontinental in Tahiti. There's a substanial difference between the motu OWB and lagoon one. Why such a rate difference? Is it really worth to spend the extra and stay at the lagoon OWB as opposed to motu? The motu OWB is the same price as the Le Meridien OWB...so, what does the other OWB in IC offer? Help...I'm confused! --Karina

The other rooms are bigger, newer and more private. The Motu OW's are the old one which are smaller and not as nice. Its all up to what you want. I personally wouldnt spend money on a OW in Tahiti and use the money for an OW on the other islands

Thanks for this! Which other island would you suggest? See, the thing is that I'm in the other islands (Bora, Moorea) for more than a few nights. And I couldn't afford spending for so many nights (I'm recently got out of grad school, just starting earning real dollars!). But in Tahiti, I'm there just for one night. Maybe it maybe worthwhile to unpack and repack for one night on another island, just for one night, and stay at somewhere OWB?

I'd have to agree with Pacific Andy. Do an OWB on one of the other islands. Being on the water on Tahiti can't hold a candle to Bora Bora or Moorea.
You might consider changing rooms for part of your stay on one of the other islands so you can experience staying in an OWB. We did it on Bora Bora a few years ago. We were there for 7 nights. We stayed 5 nights in one room, and then our last 2 nights we moved to a OWB. It worked out great for us. We really wanted to experience an OWB, but it was not in our budget to do it for a whole week.
I would suggest the OWB on Bora Bora, if you can. But Moorea would be good too. Which hotels are you staying at? Someone can suggest which would be a better overall OWB experience based on which hotels.

hi Patti,
Okay, my boyfriend and I are doing 3 nights in Moorea, 3 nights in Bora, and 1 arrival night in Tahiti (Tahiti Airport Motel), and 1 departing night in Tahiti (unbooked yet). We booked our 3 nights in Bora at Chez Nono, just cause we managed to get a bungalow, and it's right on Matira, which I was told was the place to be. And we booked three nights at Fare Motu Iti in Moorea, just cause it seemed reasonable. What do you recommend? Again---thanks so much for this!!!! -Karina

Passing thru Tahiti 1 day ea way isn't worth spending the extra $ on an OWB. Frankly, you wouldn't have time to savor the experience. You may have time to tinker around the town a little (or maybe just stroll along the shoreline) - all depends on your flight times in & out. Not to worry, you'll be pinching yourself enough just that you're finally in Tahiti!
Just think of Papeete as your acclimation point... helping you transition in & out of French Polynesia, rather than it being the experience itself. Don't bother unpacking...just keep a change of clothes conveniently available for the next leg.
Once in Moorea & BB, then unpack & unwind - that's your real destination.
We ususally stay at the IC in Papeete (Lagoon or Panoramic View) & enjoy it. It's also an easy cab ride to & from the airport. But there are several good spots to choose from (Sheraton, etc.) Do a search here on the board for several suggestions. Also, there's a Tahiti Information List (restaurants, things to do) that's quite good.
FP is a wonder, magic place. Enjoy!

Hmmmm.......maybe I recommend you go for the original idea of OWB on Tahiti at the Intercontinental, because neither of the places you are staying on the other islands have OWB's. They are both pensions, not hotels.
Why are you doing a departing night on Tahiti?

Do you guys know what kind of room is the best in the main hotel? I have 1 KING BED PANORAMIC VIEW ROOM booked, don't see any suites... Only OWB are higher, which personally we will skip in IC Thaiti...

Gritbox Dan--- Nice strategising! I'd almost think you're a MBA grad in strategy ;-)
I think I'm starting to see the point. Okay, so I think what I'll do is do two nights, at Motu Iti Pension in MOorea, then shift to an OWB there to truly enjoy it. Then in Tahiti, I'll just do a regular room.

OWB at the Motu Iti? Is there such a thing? They have beach bungalows, but I don't think they have OWB. Or were you referring to going to another resort for the OWB?
