Who provides the best wave runner tours at Bora Bora? Is there any one who rents them for the hour / day where you can exlore on your own?

I've never heard of a difference with this kind of tour. I do know you're always with a guide. Seemed like fun.

Unfortunately, they're also loud and obnoxious for those trying to soak up the tropical atmosphere on their OW decks and dangerous when they come too close to snorkelers!

I agree with both postings above...We did it, it was fun, but if I was the one on the beach or on my deck, I'd be majorly annoyed. I was actually feeling bad while riding it. But it was a nice way to see the island. I don't think any outfitters will let you go alone. We had a guide, he took us to a small motus and gave us a crash course on coconuts and what you can do with them (and he wasn't bad on the eyes either..!). Seriously, it should not be allowed.

Everyones noise tolerance is different but the wave runner tours are pretty reckless- weaving in and out of boat traffic and they do get pretty close to the OWB's at some resorts. I know I'd be seriously annoyed if I had paid a pretty penny for an end of pontoon OWB and heard and saw nothing but the jet ski's all day. It's nice to be away from your neighbors but the end of the dock isn't any more private during the day because of the constant traffic. The lagoon is their freeway. It's more of a problem with the resorts on the east side- they stick out into the lagoon farther.
My parents live 1/4 mile off of a large MN lake and that is all you hear all summer long- and that is with huge trees in the way.

Actually Andie, much of Hawaii deos not allow jet skis at all, or strictly limit where they can go. Here in Kona there is one company that does it, and you are taken by boat to a float moored well in the bay to start and finish your ride. You ride on your own, but within a prescribed area, and are far enough out at sea that you cannot be heard anywhere from the shore.

What resorts are on the east side of Bora Bora- is that where IC thalasso, LM and St Regis are? I am hoping we don't have to see Jet skis going by all day.
I agree with the jet skis- it doesn't make sense to have people go off on their own with them since they could take it to areas close to the resorts etc. From what I understand thru researching it... they only do it with a guide on both Bora Bora and Tahaa. (It was the same when we went Jet Skiing in Moorea too.)

Well, fellow Minnesotan, we who live in the land of over 10,000 lakes, jet skiis are the reason that we expanded an enormous pond on our property and have a sign ,"no jet skiis allowed." I spent a 4th of July at my friend's beautiful lake home on a huge Minnesoa Lake. That is when we decided that we would never even want a lake home. Out on Lake Superiot, they are not that annoying as the people are far away from shore on the jet skiis, so I suggest if anyone wants the thrill of the jet ski, come to Duluth and have your fun out on Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world where you can ride the jet skiis for miles and miles. And we even have 80-100 degree weather in the summer.
