I wore sundresses with flat sandals for the nicer places (shorts & a top for the others). I wouldn't take heels because you're often walking on sand either inside (like Bloody Marys) or at least outside. It really is a casual country for dressing.

I always wear a pair of shorts and some sort of flowered or Hawaiian shirt. The wife does sundresses and sandals. Nobody gets really dressed up. And if you go to a place like Le Bounty, shorts and a tee shirt are good enough. Don't even need shoes.

The heels for sure. There's lots of sand and boardwalks to get your heels stuck in. Sandals or flip flops work best.

I've seen some women in heels - especially in Bora Bora but very few. My wife never takes heels but that's not to say that you couldn't, just not practical over there and when you have to pack light, it's just an extra thing to have to carry around.

I'm sure some pack heels & then wish they hadn't. It's like the waterfall hike in Moorea. You need excellent sport sandals or running shoes for that one. I saw one girl wearing heels up there & she was covered in mud & a bit bloody. Personally, I didn't see any heels at the restaurants we were at on Moorea and Bora Bora, but I'm sure some women wear them (to me, they're just an extra, very impractical thing to pack).
