Okay, just my opinion, but I think you bring what your are most comfortable in. I am a stay at home mom, and I love breaking out my heels when I go out. Last time in FP and the trip planned in Nov this year, my heels come with me. I feel better in them, I feel like I am doing something fun for grown ups. If you are someone who wears them to work all the time, you might like the break, but for some of us, we live in barefeet and flip flops, so we need a holiday from those too. Now pantyhose and stockings, they are truly evil - sausage casings for your legs, not nice.

The other consideration is that walking on the OWB piers and on dirt parking lots may not be practical as well for heels, according to my wife. For as expensive and chic Bora Bora may seem to be, once you get there, it's expensive and tropical casual for the most part. City clothing just doesn't blend well with the warm South Pacific setting, especially if you decide to stroll along the beach. However, you'll need to do whatever it is that makes you happy and relaxed on your vacation and at dinner.

Yes, I was thinking of the walkways at the Sofitel Motu and similar places (with wooden slats). I don't think you could easily walk on those in narrow heels of any kind (wedges would be likely work better).

Yes the wooden slats are a challenge on the walkways, but it can be done, and even after 16 years of marriage it is nice to need to be held on to on the way back to your OWB.....

I'm new to this site and may have just missed it, but what is appropriate dress for the island? I'm assuming shorts and t-shirt for the bulk of the time. What about dining? Can that be just as casual or would that be innapropriate? I'm looking to pack light and smart. I did read 1 entry that suggested: hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, toiletries, bug spray snorkel stuff and 2 bathing suits.

Casual is perfect. Tanks and tees and shorts are perfect for daily activities, breakfast and lunch. For dinner....at most places a nice pair of shorts and a polo or Hawaiian style shirt and sandals for men is fine. Tank tops and board shorts would be inappropriate for men for dinner. Only a very few places require long pants for men. For ladies, a nice pair of shorts or capris and top, or a sun dress is fine for dinner.

Welcome to the forum, Melinda! Women can also get away with a nice pareo most of the time, with sandals. Pick up a booklet showing a bizzilion ways to tie them into dresses, shirts, and wraps!

And buy your pareo there! The colours and patterns are amazing and they're very inexpensive.
