I'm hoping that the sofitel will have a ice box of some sort so we can keep col drinks and snacks in....does anyone know. And is there a store around the area to pick up such things. Water is the big question?

My husband and I were just there in late April and the only icebox (you're showing your age! LOL) they have was the tiny one in the mini-bar. We emptied ours and stored a few things in there. Unfortunately, it's not large enough for much of anything. We were able to fit only a quart size carton of juice and a couple small bottles of water. The other problem we had was the lack of ice buckets. We ended up using the plastic laundry bags to carry ice back to our bungalow and using one sink for washing and the other for icing down drinks. Quite a few people on here have recommended collapsible coolers. Next time we're definitely bringing one of those. It would've made things easier.

Oh yeah....There's a few small magasin's in the area where you can buy supplies and there is a large Champion grocery store as well. You will need a car as they are quite far to walk to. We liked going to Champion. You can buy the extra large bottles of water and what we did was save a few smaller water bottles (or you could buy a nice one from a camping store at home) and poured water into them instead of carrying those big bottles around.

The food was okay. Pretty pricey and not really worth the price. My husband and I shared a pizza (smaller than your average small pizza at one of our local joints) I had a glass of wine and he had a beer and we spent about $80. Then again, the dollar tanked when we got there so we got screwed all around. We did the buffet and dinner show and I believe that was around $200. Again, it was good but not $200 good. We bought our breakfast at the local bakery (I regret that I can't remember the name but it's a little pink building just past the Champion)every morning and ate on our porch.
There isn't really anything nearby that you can walk to. We rented a car which we took care of right there in the lobby. A little Fiat Uno was about $175-$200 for 48 hours. It had no power steering but it did have air conditioning! We had a blast riding around the island and exploring.
We had a "superior" beach bungalow. I don't know that you have to go all out and get the superior, though. The way they are staggered on the beach everyone has a great view. The only thing the superiors give you is a shorter walk to the water. If you click on this link I have some shots of our bungalow. http://www.kodakgallery.com/sean_michelle The only reason we had one of the superiors is because that's was part of our honeymoon package. The gardens are nice looking. I only saw the outside of them but the area is nice and the little pond out front is pretty and looks like a very peaceful place to sit. Bring bug spray especially since your in the garden. The water is pretty still and sure to attract mosquitos.
We loved it there and had a great time. The lagoon is great and the snorkeling was excellent you just have to swim out a little ways but it's not too far. You'll love it!

Thanks Sugrbear73, about the food again. Were you able to keep food in your room and not worry about ants or other things eating it? I jsut hate spending a lot of money on food and when it isn't that good it really makes me mad. I'd just like some good snacks for all day.

as long as snacks are packaged, unopened, it's not an issue. Once you have opened something, make sure it is closed up tight. All fruit has to be kept in a bug free container or you will have ants.

I bring along granola bars and a few other snacks from home. bring some ziplock bags to help keep bugs out. Baguettes are cheap. We had bread and cheese for most of our lunches.

Most of the food we kept in the room was pre-packaged like granola bars, those South Beach bars and crackers. Baguettes don't stay fresh long enough to keep it more than a day. Once you get one that's hot and fresh from the bakery, believe me, it won't last too long!

Sugarbear I just looked at the pics of your honeymoon... it looked amazing. thanks for sharing. We are going on our honeymoon in October. I have two collapsable coolers, and I looked at some of the food you took photos of. My hubby to be is a big eater..... am I going to have trouble? For me, the food looks wonderful, for him, I am afraid he is going to need two entrees!!! (or was it just the pics?) Also, was it worth the bother to rent a car? Nice tattoos by the way... did you plan to get them, or did you decide once you were there? ANY advice on packing or anything, for that matter, would be appreciated.... I am VERY nervous - probably more nervous about the trip than the wedding!!! :) Thanks, Amy
