we have two nights and one day on Tahiti prior to going to Bora Bora. We plan to use points for the hotel. Which is the best choice. I assume part of the day will include some shopping. Which is closer to restrauants so we don't get stuck with Hotel food?

We stayed at Le Meridien on July 6th and 7th this year. It was very nice, but we were upgraded to a "Senior Suite" when they had to cancel our OWB. The room was huge with a big balcony and great view (#215). It was an expensive room but we got the second night at half price due to the mix up. Le Meridien went out of their way to make sure we were happy, they gave us a fruit basket and make a "Happy Anniversary" cake for us the first night we got there. I did not look into any of the other rooms there. The hotel is a 20 minute drive from Papeete, and about 15 minutes from the airport, but this was on the weekend, so weekday drives are longer due to traffic. We rented a car at the Hotel, and this was really our only negative experience, as Europe car was supposed to have a car for us by 9:00 a.m. and we didn't actually get it until 11:00. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, which was fine. I will be writing a trip review as soon as I get the pictures uploaded. We would stay there again, but not use Europe car for a car rental. I can't tell you anything about the Sheraton on Tahiti. I hope this helps.

The Sheraton is a more convenient location, the Le Meridien is a nicer hotel. If you plan on staying in and around the hotel, I would choose the Le Meridien. If you plan on being out of the room and off exploring most of the time, I would choose the Sheraton (cheaper cab ride and Le Truck stop nearby). I posted some pictures of Le Meridien in my last set of trip photos if you want to check it out.

Sheraton is easier. There are things within walking distance.

The Sheraton is More Convenient but the service is terrible. The Le Meridien is more of a relaxed vacation hotel where the Sheraton is Waikiki with a bad attitude. Terribe food as well. But it is close to town so depending on what you want to do with your two days. The Le Meridien is also walking distance to the Museum which is very cool if your into Tahiti History and stuff.

I guess we do not need much service because we never noticed a problem and the food we thought was the same as the food at the Sheraton on Moorea.
