Hi Tahiti lovers:
I'd like to get a show of interest for a Tahiti gathering at Sams Restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA (along Pacific Coast Hwy) on Saturday, August 25 beginning at 6:00 pm. Paraskevi and I plan to be there no matter what happens just to enjoy the evening in a South Pacific atmosphere for Hinanos, drinks and appetizers in the bar. We'd like to do a door prize/raffle, so think about bringing a small, nominal Tahiti item (e.g. monoi, your favorite framed photo, shell necklace) if you can just to make the evening more fun. Maybe the bar will let me play a few strums on my Tahitian ukulele. This evening would be an informal, no-host event.
Also, the Tiki Festival (Sat and Sun) is being held along Belmont Shore in Long Beach during the day, about 5 miles away, so there's another attraction to attend. We have never been to the Tiki Festival despite this being its 7th year. You can check it out on the web at longbeachseafestival.com/tiki_festival.htm and decide for yourself if you want to go as we have never attended this. We plan to drop by, however, early in the day. Rod, I'm going to wait and see how much interest people have in this one. If it's not going to be a large group, I think we'll wait for next time as coming from Denver isn't cheap. Bev and I would like to meet as many board members as possible. I know Barbi will be on Moorea and won't be able to make it. I'll keep checking back to see.

We only have a very light interest as you can see by the responses. Perhaps it's too soon to have another gathering since everyone just met in Beverly Hills not too long ago. Let's see what the interest is as we get nearer to the event - maybe see what the interest is by August 17. Otherwise, I suggest moving the gathering out to October when the Tahitian flu really hits some of us hard.

We were at Sams about a month ago (Sams) and it is fully reopened. We walked through the entire restaurant and bar, and glanced at their dinner menu. Quite nice and tropical.

We're getting ready to leave for our Las Vegas trip for next week so I'll be off the boards starting tomorrow into next week. Let's reschedule the Sams gathering for October due to low interest. However, Paraskevi, Raimiti, and I will be at the Tiki Festival in Long Beach along Belmont Shore on August 25 in the very late afternoon. Maybe we'll see some of you there.

I'm in transit on my way home from Moorea, currently on a HNL stopover, and catching up on posts while I was gone...
SO, did you guys ever have a get-together in late August??

Welcome back to the States. We chose to postpone the gathering due to very low interest. I think it was just too close to the Beverly Hills gathering. We'll try again around October.
We did get to the Tiki Festival in Long Beach. It had about 20 vendors, some Polynesian dancing performances. There was maybe four tiki carver vendors but none of the tikis looked like the kind in FP. One vendor sold some Tahitian pearls. Lots of Hinano logo clothing and merchandise. The Polynesian festival (PIFA) in San Diego later this month is a lot bigger. Unfortunately, we decided to go to Disneyland that weekend so we will miss our annual review of the Tahitian dancing.
