Hi,

I was looking into rental cars for a week on Tahiti Iti. From what I've seen so far, there aren't too many 4-wheel drives on offer. What are the general road conditions off the main circular road? I usually prefer to roam where no man has ventured before, and I'm afraid that a 107 simply won't be up to the task ;-)

Bests,

Mike

The roads along the southern and northern coasts of Tahiti Iti are paved so you shouldn't have any problems. Part of the road into the valley is paved as well but you won't get real far without a 4X4 and if it should rain, you have to be real careful because the road gets washed away.

That's what I was loooking into. All the way down to the cliffs, if possible. Thanks for your input.

The big 3 (Avis, Hertz, Europcar) don't seem to have a Samurai-type vehicle available. Are there any reputable local outlets--near the airport or en route to Iti--that might be able to help me?

Bests,

Mike

You finding a 4x4 rental to go on where no man has ventured before are slim to none. Avis does have some 4x4 but if you
get a ding or a dent they will charge you some serious change.
Tahiti Iti doesn't have many side roads and almost all of them are on private property.

Thanks All for your replies. This looks a bit more complicated than anticipated. I think I'll just start with a regular rental and work out the rest on-site....
