We just returned from a one week stay at Te Nahe Toe Toe on Huahine Iti near Avea Beach. It was wonderful. We were right on the beach and 20 feet from the lagoon. Our hosts Armele and Philipe treated us like family.

There are 3 buildings now. We stayed in the two floor, two bedroom bungalow with kitchen. They charged us $125 per night and $66 per day to use their car. There was also a boat with shade cover that could be rented for $60 per day. They also had complimentary kayaks for guest use.

The good points are the hospitatily, spectacular location on the beach, fun bathrooms with trees, and queen size beds in all rooms.

The buildings have the feeling of old Polynesia. They have coral rock floors, a rustic feeling, mosquito netting over the beds and no screens on windows.

Armele speaks very good English. Philipe understands English but is more comfortable with French. Every day Philipe would bring produce to us from their gardens. One morning Armele saw us leaving early and asked where we were going. When we told her the bakery for bread, she went into her kitchen and gave us baguettes she had just purchased.

Their nephew took us on a 4 hour boat trip one day around Huahine Iti. We snorkeled while he caught fish. When we got back he gave us the fish he caught for our dinner that night. We were only charged $60 for this private boat trip.

The best snorkel area is very close to where we stayed. You walk in the direction of town about 1/4 mile to the last road curve. Jump in!

Armele and Philipe made our trip memorable. We showed up without a reservation looking for a place to stay. They took us in and showed us true hospitality.

Armele offers airport pick-up and return too.

Rob

I have always been interested in Te Nahe Toe as it is such a beautiful spot. Can you snorkel right outside of the bungalows? I think the spot that you snorkeled is one of our favorite spots. Are there some stone stairs on the beach in a stone wall? Having a boat is the best, isn't it? Your experience is exactly why we love Huahine so much.

Hi Holte--You can't snorkel right outside the bungalow. It's just a short walk (and short swim) to the snorkel place you mentioned. I think we're both referring to the same spot.

I agree that you have to see Huahine from the water during your stay. A boat trip is a must.

If you stay here, I thing the bungalow we had is the best. It's the only one with a kitchen. There are three more bungalows. Two are connected to each other (with their own bathrooms) and are small...the other bungalow is free standing. If you stay in the non-kitchen bungalows, you can take meals with Armelle and Phillipe for a fee (I'm not sure of the cost).

Great location, comfortable beds, wonderful hospitality..just remember that these are more rustic accomodations. We loved it!

Kauai Guy, they have another Te Nahe Toe Toe between Maeva and Faie, couple of rooms and an "OWB" too small to house a dog, we just laughed when we saw that one (can not even stand up) and one quite nice "owb" with a mezzanine right above a fish park. Only drawback on that one being the coral on the floor, nice deco but making a lot of noise and quite painful on bear feet... but they are such wonderful people very very hospitable. Armelle has a pension as well next to the Meridien in Tahiti
