Depends upon how cold you get.. I haven't dove Moorea, but in Bora and Rangi, the underwaters temps were a comfortable 81 to 83 degrees F in May..

My husband and I always take wet suits--a full one for me and shortie for him. I get colder and appreciate the extra warmth. We also like to wear them when snorkeling because it certainly is a complete sunblock and he only needs to do his arms and lower legs.

Queensland shorties? Me thinks you are an Aussie! The water in FP is equivalent to North Queensland, so you can compare. The water last June was 28 degrees C at 40 metres, so you probably can get away with a super suit (1mm neo with inner and outer spandex). For me, I always wear a 3mm steamer as the knee protection comes in handy during shark feeding, as you are kneeling on the bottom (rocks and coral). Also good if you are taking photos and need to hold still with your legs.

Is there anything better than a sipping a Tahitian Mai Tai on an Overwater Bungalow in FP?
