We will be spending one night in Papeete on our trip in Feb. We're considering sytaying at the Tahiti Airport Motel, but are curious about getting something to eat. I assume they do not have a place to eat on site. Does anyone know if there is a store nearby or a restaurant where we could grab a bite to eat in the morning before our flight?
What about the Sofitel Tahiti? I suppose they do have an on site restaurant....what about a nearby store?

How about the airport itself? I don't know where you are going after Papeete, but you could get a little something at the airport and then get something really to eat on the island of your destination. Maybe bring some snacks from home to tide you over? The only reason I say this is because I always worry about catching my flight to where ever I am going. I don't care about coming back to ugly reality land, but getting there is so important!!! We usually go in Feb but this year we are going at Christmas. Maybe if things are cheap enuff, we could do a Feb but I only have 9 days. Where are you going and when?

I know, I'll grab something at the snack bar at the airport if I have to...Our island of destination is Fakarava...and then we have a 1 or 1 1/2 hour boat ride to Raimiti after the flight....I want to be sure I have something in my stomach before all of that....there's no way I could do a boat ride across the lagoon on an empty stomach. We'll have some crackers and beef jerkey with us (just in case)....but I'd prefer to have some real food in my tummy before we set off. :-)
Our trip in Feb.(10-23) will be 1 night in Papeete, 5 nights on Fakarava at Raimiti, and 7 nights on Moorea at Club Bali Hai.

I can hardly wait for your trip report! We're staying overnight at the airport motel in December before we go to Huahine. We have walked up to catch Le Truck, and I don't recall any food place that I saw close to the airport, but I have not gone past the airport motel, so I don't know if there is something on that side. If no one else lets you know, I'll report on the food situation at the airport motel as we plan on getting the earliest flight out in the am.I'm having withdrawal already because I don't think we're going in Feb. which is the month we have always gone to FP. I only have 9 days and that would mean seven days in FP. Too much money for such a short time-unless there is a miracle ATN cheap flight!

I forgot to add, one year we stayed at the Sofitel in Tahiti. I really, really did not care for it, although there are people on this site who have said that they like it. I thought the water was really dirty and it was in a not very nice area. But it's been several years, it's been remodeled, so how do I know what it is like now. But for all of that money, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Holte I have stayed at the Sofitel on Tahiti and we did enjoy ourselves. The price was just a bit less than the Sheraton. We stayed before the remodel there was a Japanese and outdoor place to eat. The best part for us was there were no hours for the pool and the pool bar was open until we went to bed after 1am. Things probably have changed but we had a great time relaxing before we came home.

superstar-was the water dirty at the Sofitel in Tahiti? I did go swimming and nothing happened to me. The night we were there, there was only a special meal and it was all sold out. No other restaurants were open at the Sofitel. We sat at the bar and ate olives for "dinner". But we were able to watch the show from where we were sitting. That was fun. It was an experience and we like experiences. We ,too, loved the Sofitel as it was in Moorea before the remodel, but now Huahine is our love. We loved the Sofitel in Huahine . The last year that we stayed there, we were practically the only people there. Normally, they had a breakfast buffet, but since we were the only ones there, we had to order breakfast off of the menu. The regular waitress was off that day, and the one we had did not speak English at all. My husband ordered sausage and eggs. He got a platter that was little wieners that were about 8 inches high on the platter. We referred to it as "wiener mountain." We saw the kitchen staff chuckling in the corner. The staff there was so nice to us. We miss that Sofitel so much. I bet you will like the Relais, especially if you love Huahine as we do. When are you going?

Holte...was it the pool water or the ocean water at the Sofitel that was dirty? I guess it doesn't matter that much as we won't be swimming in either. I'm not sure where we are staying yet. It really epends on what time our flight to Fakarava is. If it's early, we'll probably just opt for the Tahiti Airport Motel. But if it's an afternoon flight, I think we'll stay at a nicer place...one with a restaurant. The price I was quoted for the Sofitel wasn't really bad at all. But...I also found a REALLY REALLY good price on the Intercontinental on their website. I don't know if it's a mistake or not. I emailed our agent about it for her to check into for us.
Hopefully if we order breakfast, we won't get a "weiner mountain". LOL! Doesn't sound too appetizing to me. :-)

No, not the pool water. That was fine. The water in the "Sea of Moons". (How I love that name-Sea of Moons) Sounds like everyone loves the Intercontinental. I would get a better place, too, if it's the afternoon. It is their off season, so maybe you'll get a good price. Hope so! I should have checked the IC site. But then again, we will only be sleeping at the Airport motel. When my son and daughter-in-law came to FP (they came from Chile to meet us), they slept on the airport floor for several hours. Ah, to be young. I don't think I could get up off the floor. I love the Papeete airport! What an experience after US airports, n'est ce pas? Say, was it you Patti that did the Rosetta stone? If it is, how did it work? My husband and I are "F" students in French.
