About three weeks ago, I was in Tahiti, and I played a ukulele at a music store in Papeete. It was from the Marquesas, and it looked and sounded quite beautiful. I've been in contact with the store owner, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to arrange for him to send it to me.

So I was thinking: maybe there's somebody from this board who would be able to pick up this ukulele in Tahiti, and bring it to the US. I could meet you here in the US to get it from you. I would give my credit card number directly to the store, so you would not have to deal with any money. All you would have to do is visit this music store, pick up the ukulele, and bring it back to the United States safely.

I live in Washington, DC, and I occasionally go to San Francisco and Los Angeles to visit family. I'm also essentially planning trips to North Carolina, Chicago, and New York this fall. So this plan could work out if you live in any of these locations. If you think you can do this, please send me an e-mail, and we'll try to make the arrangements. My e-mail address is hawksbill8@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Just wondering if you didn't get the uke while you were there because of shipping problems, customs regulations, etc. I'd love to help you out but we may not be going until mid 2008. Ukes are so unique; once you've played a particular one and like the feel and sound, nothing else will match. I've read that the ukes from the Marquesas are the best because of the wood they use. Good luck with resolving this problem. Maybe you should use this as an excuse to go back to FP on a shopping trip.

Rats, I just returned from Tahiti last weekend and could have brought it back for you. If no one else offers before then, I would be glad to bring it back for you in November, when we are going again.

By the way, loved your slideshow from the email. We plan on doing Vahine Island next year followed by a week on Moorea. I'm keeping Fare Miti in the fore front of my mind for our Moorea portion.

hawksbill2 - I wish that I would have read this a few weeks ago. We just got back from Tahiti/Moorea/BB and will be in the DC area.
