Hello everyone!
My wife and I are looking to be in Fakarava from November 9-12 and we've read a number of postings to try to figure out where to stay. We'd like to dive both the Garuae Pass and Tumakohua Pass... and we're only there for a short time. Anyone recommend where to stay that will enable us to hit both places?? Is there only one dive center on the motu?? Confused and looking for answers on this one...
Best-
Jim

You can dive in both places if you go with Te Ava Nui dive center. They will book you at Pension Havaiki (great reviews on this site) in the North, and Motu Aito (great place per my opinion) in the South. From all the recent discussions this is about the only way you can do it. Unless Raimiti starts taking people diving in the South.
Here's their web address: http://tuamotu.plongee.free.fr/acomod.htm

Oh! And you are my neighbor (Berkeley Hills). Love to know someone in my cold part of the world who loves Tahiti. Drop me a line sometime if you feel like it. I've planned (unoficially), lot's of trips for friends, including my next door neighbors.

PS Not looking to plan this one, but would be fun to catch up with you guys. Fakarava is beautiful.

Fakarava has great diving, especially on the south pass, but if time permits, don't miss the beauty of this atoll above the water, especially on the south and the west side of the atoll, where only the reef and a few postage stamp size motu separate the expansive lagoon from the churning waves of the Pacific.

I went in Feb 2007-I stayed at Tokerau Village..really great place, hosted by a woman who grew up in the Tuomotos(sp?)....
there are 4 nice, pretty new bungalows, but no tv, no AC, so if that's what you are looking for on Fakarava, choices are limited. I dove with topdive and Teava nui...I definately DO NOT recommend topdive... But the week on Fakarava was the coolest vacation I have ever had
