It seems like a lot of people ask which resort they should book on Moorea. In the past three years we have stayed in three different OW bungalows on Moorea. The Beachcomber #521, Sheraton (Horizon OW) #87 or 89 (can't remember) and Pearl Resort (Premium OW) # 403 & 404. I thought I would give you my opinion on how I rated them:
For what it is worth...
Rooms 1. Sheraton (it is hard to decide between Sheraton and Beachcomber, each room has nice advantages. Beachcomber is bigger, Sheraton has more little details) 2. Beachcomber 3. Pearl All three rooms include robes, hair dryers, a ton of towels and standard amenities.
Air Conditioning 1. Sheraton ( Room stayed cool even during the heat of the afternoon) 2. Pearl (Room was cool at night but warm during the heat of the day) 3. Beachcomber (Room had a hard time cooling even at night)
Service 1. All three tied for service, we have had excellent Service at all
Food 1. We thought the food was comparable at all three. A bit pricey and nothing to write home about
Location 1. Pearl (closest to ferry, airport, shops (5 min walk) and pizza. Good location for sunrises and sunsets) 2. Beachcomber (not to far from shops, within walking distance (15-20 min walk) 3. Sheraton (nothing within walking distance, however the sunsets were beautiful)
Snorkeling 1. Sheraton (lots of shallow coral, saw many fish, octopus, rays and sharks from our bungalow) 2. Pearl (steep drop off from bungalow, this did make for some nice free diving, lots of eels) 3. Beachcomber (scattered coral, reef fish, not as many as Sheraton)
Grounds 1. Beachcomber (well maintained and very lush growth) 2. Pearl (smallest of three but well maintained) 3. Sheraton (well maintained, just not as lush)
Pool 1. Pearl 2. Beachcomber 3. Sheraton
Deck 1. Sheraton (large upper and lower deck with fresh water shower, table/chairs for eating and lounge chairs) 2. Pearl (small upper and lower deck with fresh water shower. No table/chairs for eating) 3. Beachcomber (large deck without a lower deck, no shower)
Prices 1. Pearl 2. Beachcomber 3. Sheraton
Shows/Entertainment 1. Beachcomber 2. Pearl 3. Sheraton
Summary on Beachcomber: Large Resort, This was our first taste of Moorea so this will always hold a special place in my heart. Hotel type rooms available for cheaper options. About a 15 minute walk to shops.
Summary on Sheraton: Quiet resort, Large Resort, Most expensive, but defiantly worth it in my opinion. This is my favorite, if money were no object this is the one I would choose. The snorkeling is out of this world. Not within walking distance of anything to speak of.
Summary on Pearl: Small intimate resort. Family resort; Excellent Prices on rooms; within easy walking distance of many things. Do not get room 401 next to dock!

Really enjoyed this--thanks for posting! Especially liked your comments on the Sheraton, since we're staying there in a couple of weeks!

I was torn between Sheraton and IC when deciding which to book. I can now sleep better at night and now I will enjoy the Sheraton resort in May~ Thanks for the review.

Hello ScubaShari,
Thank you for the excellent post.
I will be staying at the IC during first week of June.
Any tips specific to the IC you can share? How was OWB #521?
Thanks again... this forum has been a great place for information/tips/advice.
