hi all,

I know the concept of hotels near the airport have been discussed here before but my question is specific to starwood. We have a 8 AM flight back to LA and therefore need to stay in tahiti our last night. I want to stay at a starwood because I can use points - there are 2 the sheraton or le meridien - which would you recommend. We will probably arrive in the early afternoon on a Thursday (around check in time) and leave very early friday morning. we are just looking for a decent place to stay our last night that is close to the airport and close to town. thanks!

I believe the Sheraton is closer to the airport than Le Meridien, so that might factor into your choice. I have stayed at both (briefly, overnight stays like yours), and liked the Sheraton better... Make sure to make your transport arrangements for your morning drive to the airport the day before, when you arrive; you need to get to the airport about 5 a.m. for checkin.

The Sheraton is closer to the airport. We have stayed there in the past and will again on our trip starting next week. It was only overnight like Barbi. Nice hotel for just a quick stay.

Definitely the Sheraton. Le Meridien is a good 20/30 minutes, especially in AM traffic back to the airport.

We stayed at the Shearton Tahiti 3 times during our last trip. 1st night, 1 night awaiting flight to Easter Island, and 3 nights before we returned home (2 free since airline canceled original flight and we'd already paid in full for trip).

Pros: Close to airport, close to town, comfy beds, friendly staff (even when their was a strike going on). Restaurant food was good (we didn't do the buffets). Pool was nice. Definitely a good place to stay for the short layovers before moving on elsewhere.

Cons: No real beach or snorkeling, but didn't really matter since that's what the other islands are for.

Just remember the hotel probably has the worst service and staff in all of FP. I was just there a few weeks ago and its awful. Saturday night the bar downstairs closed all the drunken kids came out at the same time. No problem except for the few guys peeing in the lobby, one girl was trying to break in the store and most everyone was looking for something to destroy. The bell staff and two security guys just sat and watched and started to hang out. People where just arriving from the late night Hawaiian Airlines flight and what a shock they received on their check in. I would stay at the InterConti or if need to use points go to Le Meridien and just figure in the distance.

We have stayed at the Sheraton a few times and have enjoyed ourselves. Easy to town and the airport.
