1:15 AM Flight - What To Do

Air France recentl changed our flights back to LA. We are now leaving Friday morning on a 1:15 AM flight. We will be checking out of our hotel in Bora Bora on Thursday and catching an afternoon flight to Tahiti - figure we get to Tahiti early - mid afternoon on Thursday but our flight is not until 1:15 AM on Friday - what are our options with the bags meaning how early can I check in with Air France for the flight or is there a spot in the airport I can hold my bags and enjoy the town for the evening before having to heading back to the airport to catch my 1:15 AM flight on Friday?

You won't be able to check in with Air France very early so your best bet is to leave your bags at the 'shack' in the airport parking lot that's set up for this (they charge per bag and per size of bag, by the way). Grab Le Truck and go into Papeete for a few hours, eat at a roulotte and people-watch. You might need to grab a taxi back to the airport (I'm not sure how late or reliably Le Truck runs in the evening). Enjoy! That was our plan the last time we were in Tahiti, but I had an accident my last morning on Bora Bora (a faceplant in lava rock that resulted in stitches) so we skipped our "outing" and just rested at the airport.

Air France will open check-in counters 3 hours before your flight (so, that's 10:15 p.m.). There is a storage facility for your luggage, across the parking lot from the main "departure" entrance, just behind the booth where the mamas are selling leis. Do what OldWife suggests, go into Papeete for dinner and people-watching, and taxi back to the airport around 10:00 p.m., retrieve your luggage and check in for your flight.
