Rodjune - once you get that promotion and your wife feels her tahitian pearl collection is complete, I need assistance in building my collection.

I have to say, that was an incredibly saavy move on his part and he does have the best of the best. It says something when Chanel will only purchase Wan black pearls. They had a 50" 15mm strands for sale a couple years ago when the opera length came back into vogue. Don't even want to know what those were going for.

We went to Mikimoto at South Coast Plaza a few days ago and saw an opera length with graduated Tahitian pearls from probably 11mm to 16 mm. I couldn't see the price tag but based on other pearl necklace prices we inquired about, I dare say this one was easily over $50K. And then there was this Barbara Bush size 18" necklace of maybe 13mm to 16mm - Oh my, you'd have to have thick neck muscles to support the weight of that big baby strand. Spotbeagle: Poor me, my wife's collection will never be complete as long as I'm the one with the Tahitian pearl obsession in my family.

I'm sure that opera length strand was beautiful. I'm so not a jewelry wearing person, but when it comes to pearls, I just can't have enough.
Haven't ventured over to South Coast Plaza in a while, so I haven't been in the Mikimoto shop. Went down to Fashion Valley in San Diego with my mom (another tahitian pearl addict) and we stumbled upon a nice independent pearl shop. They carried Ayoka, south seas, and tahitian pearls - all of very high quality. It turned out that they were having a sale (first ever for the store) since they were closing at the end of the day for a couple of weeks while they move to a new location at another mall (30% off). I restrained myself, and didn't get anything - nothing on display in the color I'm most interested in right now. And most of their loose tahitians were already packed up for the move. Mom however got a beautiful green tahitian pearl ring set in platinum with two top quality diamonds for an incredible price (even without the sale, it was reasonably priced). So, she is now also going to have them reset from yellow gold to white gold or platinum the green pendant and earrings that I brought back last year for her to match the ring.
I'll have to tell my other half that you too are obsessed with those lovely round things from Tahiti. He thinks he's the only guy in the world that likes them.
