Hi all,
I am about to book my honeymoon at FP. We will stay at Moorea for 3 nights and another 3 nights at Bora Bora. We have some quotes and the best option for us is as below.
(Feb 10, 2008 ~ Feb 16, 2008) - Moorea: Intercontinental Moorea for 3 nights (includes daily breakfast & dinner) - Garden Bungalow
- Bora Bora: Intercontinental Le Moana for 3 nights (includes daily breakfast & dinner) - Lagoon OWB
1. Can anyone advise me if we'd better upgrade the room to Beach Bungalow at Moorea Intercontinental? If the beach bungalow is much much greater than the garden bangalow, I guess we need to think about that.
2. In Intercontinental Le Moana Bora Bora, does Lagoon OWB suites have good view? (I understand that it depends on the room#, but I don't know the room# yet.) Which room# should I ask for agency? (==> Sorry for asking about Bora Bora in Moorea Board.)
3. We contacted with Canadian Travel Agency. Due to the tax, the package that they provide is more budget-saving than the local(U.S.) one. Is there any problem when I purchase the package from oversea?
I can't wait to go FP!! Please help me to get the best option. Thanks in advance.

1. I think there's a membership you can get with Intercontinental that will upgrade your garden to a beach bungalow without cost. Do a search here and, hopefully, you can find it. I'd say, yes, it's well worth upgrading (even if you have to pay). We stayed in a beach bungalow that was in the strip closest to the main beach & the view is almost totally wide open & fantastic.
2. No idea as I haven't stayed there.
3. I assume you're American & buying a Canadian package? It's probably fine except you might not have a recourse if the travel company goes belly-up (that's how it works in reverse). Pay by credit card so you can go after the credit card company for a refund if it happens. By the way, Canada isn't overseas (*g*).

Intercontinental has a program that supplements their Priority Club rewards program called "INTERCONTINENTAL® AMBASSADOR". It costs $150 per year but it give you free room upgrades (when available) and a coupon for a free night's stay. For more information go to http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/pc/1/en/c/2/content/dec/pc/0/en/ambassador.html

Eat your dinners away from the hotel. Moorea has some great restaurants that far outshine any hotel food.

my wife and i got back about 2 wks ago. we stayed at the intercontinental on moorea and bora bora. we had a beach bungalow on moorea and an owb at the le moana. the garden bungalows are nice, they are just a little away from the water. the thing is, you're still very close to the beach and lagoon part (if you're located closer to the lobby versus the helipad). if its in the budget, i say why not. its your honeymoon and its always more fun to just step out of your bungalow onto your part of the beach. =) definitely eat out on moorea. the hotel food is very resort like. moorea has a bunch of EXCELLENT restaurants. I recommend Irene's and Le Mayflower. Most restaurants pick you up at your hotel for free. just talk to the concierge.
now at the le moana, we stayed in one of the horizon bungalows. the lagoon bungalows are very nice, all overwater, but you're not as far out as some of the horizon bungalows. we were fortunate enough to get #28, the furthest bungalow out (closet to the horizon) and it was gorgeous. we literally had a 180 degree ocean view. i recommend talking to your agent about a horizon OWB. Definitely eat at bloody mary's on bora bora and try "sands" at the intercontinental thalaso, the food is pretty good.
good luck and have fun.

Just got back 2 weeks ago and stayed at Intercontinentals in Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. Definitely join their Ambassador Club. We did and got upgrades in all three hotels, plus a late check out on the day we left. In Moorea we had a superior beach bungalow on the little strip of beach around from the main beach and it was a great location - I think it was #314. At Le Moana we had a horizon o/w bungalow #11. It was one of the furthest out.

We did the IC's as well. Got the upgrades and priority check in and out at all three hotels. Definitely worth the money for the Ambassador card. In Moorea we booked the Garden View and requested 303 Beach and got it - great view straight across the lagoon at the dolphin show, close to the reception (but with no noise from either the dolphins or reception). Highly recommended. Booked Sapphire at Thalasso and requested deep water Diamond and got 130 (last room at the end of the pontoon). This worked great as the shuttle will drop you off at the pontoon if you ask. Saves you a walk back to the reception then out to your room, plus you can jump off the balcony of the room or bedroom (if you can crouch under the obstacle across the sliding bedroom doors). The water depth out there is about 12 feet deep.

Ambassador membership drops to $100.00 starting in your second year as a member. I have saved enough money to pay for more than 10 years of membership...

does anyone have any opinions on the 'lanai room'. our travel agent booked us in that for the IC Moorea. and with the ambassador membership, will we get the upgrades even in the high season of late july/early august?
