I don't know about upgrades (I hope you get one), but I'll describe the 2 directions they face. One side faces out over the pool, beach & lagoon (it's probably very noisy at many times of the day) and the other side faces towards an open green area with trees, plants & flowers & overlooks (pretty far away) the garden bungalows and will give you a view of the awesome mountains (can you tell which side I would choose?).

The Lanai rooms are just a three storey hotel complex wrapped around the pool. If you're on your honeymoon, I'd buy the Ambassador membership, book the Garden Bungalow, take the upgrade to beach and request 303. If you are going to stay on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, then use your free night to add another night (take 4 nights instead of 3). You may find that staying for 4 nights at either resort may give you an advantage, like stay 5 pay 4, or stay 4 and receive free meals. It actually turn out to be cheaper to stay longer (weird I know, but that was the case on our last trip). Your TA will be able to organise this as your itinerary will state - "first night at your leisure". This is the free night from your Ambassador membership. Regardless, you'll have a fantastic time in FP and you will DEFINITELY be back. It will be a trip that you will NEVER forget.

thanks a lot for the info. as a matter of fact we are arriving thurs. and leaving sunday. but not on a honeymoon. we're ok with not having the beach bungalow actually. but the lanai room does not sound exciting.

Yes, there are garden bungalows in behind the beach bungalows at the Moorea Intercontinental. They're the exact same style and size as the beach bungalows there (I think the OW bungalows, are the same, too). I haven't been to the Pearl, but the IC's bungalows are really nice with a large living room, deck, bedroom with queen-sized bed (or is it a king?), large closet with safe, bathroom with toilet in a separate room, bath, sink(s?), open shower (we loved that...there are no walls or shower curtains).

The Lanai rooms are nice. Similar to a regular hotel room in Hawaii. The bungalows are what everyone wants to do and are somewhat unique to Tahiti. If budget is an issue the Lanai rooms are a good deal. They all have balconies and nice views.
