Rye-oh-ki,

You reminded me of something! For those traveling to outer islands, be careful buying fresh fruit in Papeete to take on your interisland flight. Sometimes (but not always), Air Tahiti will confiscate it when you are flying to certain islands -- we lost some wonderful papayas that way, on the way to Maupiti! (They spotted it on the Xray and asked if it was a soccer ball!)

On the other hand, there is no restriction on bringing produce from Papeete to Moorea. I am not sure how widespread the restriction is, but it's good to be aware of.

They do the same thing with flowers too. Does anyone know why?

There are pests and plant diseases that are found on one island but not another. To prevent the spread of these things, international and inter-island transportation of fruit and flowers are in some cases forbidden. Hawaii for example has a very strict agricultural inspection both entering and leaving the islands.

We stayed at the Intercontinental last month. There is a small grocery story and pearl shop across the street from the resort (5-10 max from your room walking distance). Also, if you walk to the exit of the resort and turn right, walk about 10-15 minutes and there is a small market on your right. We bought the beer and water at the shop across the street from the resort and saved a little money. Have fun!!

jaymi,

Clarification: are you speaking of the Intercontinental in Moorea or the Intercontinental in Faa'a Tahiti?
