I will be visiting Rangiora together with my wife and 2 year old son. We are looking for an accomodation that
- Is on the best beach (i.e. with a small kid I do not want to travel to get to a nice beach), ideally with a bungalow on the beach.
- Dive operaters will pick you up
- Tranquil, does not need to be luxury, idyllic setting is more important

thanks for any suggestions (highly appreciated)

We just returned from Hotel Kia Ora, and loved it. They have beautiful beach bungalows, with jacuzzi or the deluxe bungalow with plunge pool. The hotel pool, is great for kids because it is a walk in, so it gradually gets deeper, making entry and exit easier for a 2 year old. One thing to consider, the beach is more coral than sand, and water shoes are an advantage when entering and exiting the water. Not the kind of beach you would build sand castles on, but certainly not a problem. We saw many families there with small children. Because of the glass doors of the bungalow leading directly to your deck and the beach, the garden bungalows are also lovelly and this seemed to be where most families stayed, so that may be something to consider. With either bungalow you are right at the beach, so there is no "travelling" involved to get to the beach. There is a dive shop on site, and many others on Rangiroa that will pick you up at the hotel.

For a nice cheaper alternative, Pension Tuanake is lovely, along a small but pleasant coral lagoon beach, with a few of the bungalows within a rock's throw distance. The beach is probably not as nice as the Kia Ora but it was still very safe for kids (in my opinion) and located next to a shallow hoa (channel) for wading. Dive operators will come to pick you up and continental breakfast and dinner can be included in your rate.

The beaches are not the softest you'll ever find. They're crushed shells or coral, so being reef shoes for everyone.

Hi, we stayed at pension Bounty. It is located next to the Kia Ora. I think that beach is the nicest beach in Rangiroa. Diveschool six passengers is less then 100m from the pension. The pension has bikes you can use and they are very close to the tiputa pass. The village (not much to do anyway)is far away but there are a few restaurants that have a free pick up service. The food at the pension is more then excellent and most guests eat at the pension (all together at a long table with the owner). The 3 studio's are very nice, big and clean (with a small kitchen). The french owner speaks perfect English and little Italian. Website = www.pension-bounty.com

Pension bounty is about 50 meters behind the beach. From the pension you can see the sea + white beach through a window of trees at the end of the path. It looks just like a beautiful painting.
There are 2 little shops about 500m from the pension (we always took the bikes)
I saw your your schedule on the other thread: they both look very nice. We decided to skip bora bora and went for Moorea and Nuku Hiva instead and also spent a lot of time in Fakarava. It just depends on what you are looking for: are you a diver, do you like to be around a lot of people, contact with locals, tranquility, nature, hiking etc. etc.
Good luck with your planning!!
