Probably those or Crocs. When we snorkelled at Raimiti, Maluha wore flip-flops some of the time. The only thing is they don't protect your toes from stubbing coral or the sides of your feet (I felt much better with full reef shoes).

I have worn dive boots-not that expensive and easy to swim in. Flips flops would fall right off. I also have worn Crocs, but they create a drag and are not as easy to swim in if you plan on doing serious swimming. However, I like the Crocs the best as they are so easy to wash ,and they are the only shoes you need to bring as you can wear them for all occasions. Plus, they are easy on and off in the airport.

In our experience those "aqua sock" type water shoes are the best. Maluha at Raimiti cut her toe pretty badly (snorkeling in flip flops) when we were there, and I believe you, Old Wife, mentioned that she had the same thing happen while you were there.

No, actually, she stubbed her toe badly on a rock that was on the pathway between the kitchen & the restaurant (Eric had been cutting the lawn & ran into it & threw it on the path by mistake). Then she cut another toe with a broken plate. I think I should send her steel-toed work boots!

While in Rangiroa, the dive boat driver was wearing "plastic" shoes. They are a closed toe sandal type shoe, that is make of plastic. Several years ago, people wore them and the were called "Jellies". We saw them for sale in both Rangiroa and Bora Bora. I saw the local tahitians wearing them swimming in both Rangi and Bora Bora.

Ah, Jellies! I haven't seen them around for awhile (but they were popular here). I think Crocs (and knock-offs) have taken their place here.

Old Wife, one couple from Seattle wore these shoes to everything at Raimiti, snorkeling, walking, reef walking - Maluha was checking them out, I think she really could use a pair! The only "weakness" is the open heel. http://www.keenfootwear.com/product_detail.aspx?sku=510230

Thanks, Finnano. The discount shoe store near us seems to carry them. I'll go have a look.

The Keen one look nice, but I really like our Salomon's we bought last year. They worked wonderfully. They cover the foot more than those Keens (especially in the heel area). But still allow for total water exposure. And ours didn't smell funny when they dried. :-)
This is what my hubby has... http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/2911779/c/86319.html
Here is a womans version of it... http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/2911970/c/86324.html
Here is what I have. It's not the Tech version shown above, just the regular version. They worked just fine for me.... http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/11856177/c/86325.html
I really love wearing our Salomon's in real life too. Especially here in Vegas. It's nice to be able to wear a pair of tennis shoes in the summer that don't make your feet all hot and sweaty. They get a really nice airflow in them. And they are great for flying! They slip off and on your feet very quickly for airport security.
We also bought the Hydro-Crocs last year. They worked okay in FP. Great for walking around in the water and on the rocky shore and stuff. But they weren't that great to snorkle in. The Salomon's worked much better snorkeling. Only good thing about the Crocs and snorkeling is they held your feet in a float position every well. But they didn't make swimming as easy as I heard they did. I didn't think they worked (more or less) like flippers at all. They seemed to hamper my swimming a bit.
