My new bride and I will be heading to Tahiti for a cruise in June 08. We are planning on staying 3 nights at the Intercontinental Resort in Tahiti. We have booked a Junior Suite in the OWB Lagoon. I have read conflicting reports as to which bungalow is the best 512 or 511. Based on what I can tell 511 faces at an angle to Morrea and the resort to the right. 512 face directly left towards Tahiti and with a side view of Moorea. Some say that 512 is more private but 511 has better view. Can you please help me and give me an opinion as to which OWB is better and why? I have also heard that 511 is going through some form of rebuild/remodeling and will not be ready by June, in which case this is a moot point. Thank you in adavance!

Good for you in deciding to explore Tahiti! I haven't done it but everyone who has really liked it. Realistically, I think either would be good as no hotel will guarantee a specific room. Definitely make the request, but don't be surprised if they can't accommodate you in June, as it's high season.

Justine your right. We have enjoyed exploring Tahiti. It took us 8 years to do it. Wish we would have done it sooner.

There is a poster on TripAdvisor who frequently notes that, rather than requesting specific bungalow numbers, you should let the resort know what is most important to you (privacy? full view of Moorea? view of Tahiti?) so that they can match you to the bungalow that best meets those criteria. As he points out, if the specific number you request is already assigned, they will know only that they can't give it to you-- they won't know why you wanted it and therefore will not be able to find the next best choice for you.
Over the years, I've largely managed to talk myself out of requesting numbers (too stressful wondering if I'd get it), but have done it once (and got it-- yay for the Intercontinental Moorea!) and also have once requested a particular kind of view (of Mount Otemanu at the Le Moana on Bora Bora -- and got it!).
We had 515 for our very first night ever in Tahiti. It's the first bungalow on your left as you step out onto the long pontoon of the overwater suites. It had no view of Moorea, but a wonderful direct view of Tahiti. We pulled the curtains in the morning for our first glimpse of Tahiti (we landed in the dark) and saw hundreds of racing canoes with the green mountains behind them. Fabulous.

Well we have changed significantly and have gone to 487 which is the grand suite on the Motu...you only live once! And this way we get to experience the best that Bora Bora has to offer (as far as OWB) and still get the views, etc that the rest of the island has to offer. HAs anyone stayed in this bungalow?
