Which would you choose for a dayroom?

I'm torn-- can you help me decide? We're going to be coming over around 9 a.m. on the Sunday morning ferry from Moorea and will get a dayroom as our flight out is at 11:30 PM and we have two kids with us (this mom already knows-- there's only so long you can drag the kids around with you!)
Both the Sheraton and Le Meridien have rooms running around $210 before taxes; the Radisson appears to want us to book a suite as we're a family, so they're about $286. As we're staying at the IC for a couple of nights at the front end and I'd love to try somewhere else when I'm not "committed" to a massive stay, I thought I'd try one of these three.
Sheraton: close to town. Nice rooms. Pool looks great. Le Meridien: pool might be great? We met folks once who'd sworn by the snorkelling off the overwaters there. Rooms probably not so nice. Radisson: rooms look lovely. Nice pool. On a black sand beach-- bonus points with the kids! How nice is the beach though?
Basically, we need a place with a good pool (bonus points for snorkelling or beach) and preferrably with some access to food/shopping, although that's negotiable.
Our other options are to stay on Moorea until 5:30-ish, but then face probably five hours at the airport (not with kids---aack!) or try getting a room at the IC on points (they want us in a Panoramic room as we're a family, so I'd have to "fudge" the rezzie and I'm not sure my nerves are up to that). We don't want to take the luggage to the airport, check it at the luggage check and then Le Truck it into town. Sounds good in theory, but I know my family. That's going to be too much and someone (prolly my husband) will have a meltdown in Faaa.
Which hotel would you choose?

What's the problem with the IC?? Why would you have to fudge? Am I missing something? The Panoramic rooms are fine, especially if you will only be there for the day.

I liked the stay we had at the Sheraton (3 times in one trip - arrival night, night before our Easter Island flight, three nights after returning from Easter Island and before our return home). I liked it for the reasons you state. Close to town, we did that a couple of times, the pool was nice and not crowded (but we were there in November). There is a manmade beach but it meets the lagoon with a rocks supporting it above the lagoon, but it's nice. Snorkeling may not be all that great. Getting into and out of the lagoon isn't all that easy and there isn't a shallow sandy bottom near the edge. But walking along the lagoon, we did see some cool fish, so once your actually in the water or out a little bit further, there may be something out there.

If you are looking for some place different, of the three you mention, I would choose the Le Meridien hands down. It is further away than the others but the pool is large with sand surrounding it and a zero entry (good for the kids). There is also a small beach that you and the kids can sit and play on. The beach is a true beach and enters smoothly into the lagoon. I found the water and the snorkeling to be better at the Le Meridien than at the Intercontinental but it still won't come close to any of the other islands. I posted a bunch of photos of the Le Meridien in my last trip report from April if you want to check it out.

Zoe, why not stay in Moorea for your last day? Depending on the hotel and season, you may hold on to the room until 4pm. Moorea Express (not as compfy as Aremiti) has a last fast ferry going out 18h45 getting you to the airport short of 8 pm and you'd have to be there anyway 3 hours before Air Moorea has late flights on Sunday as well but of course very different price range than the ferry.
Also the IC (Tahiti) offers Sunday brunches including pool use so you would not have to pay a fortune for a dayroom... The Radisson suites are fine for family but it is way out East

The Radisson is out east, but really no further than the Meridien, just on the opposite direction.
The black sand beach is very nice. On a Sunday, there will be lots of locals, boogy-boarding and swimming. The hotel also has a really beautiful pool.

The IC's website won't let you book 4 to a Panoramic room, even though you can through your travel agent and per the info on the hotel website. I mentioned it to the Priority Club agent I spoke with the other day ;)
I was going to go the Radisson or Sheraton route, just to check out something different. The last ferry that was available to us would have given us a couple of extra hours in the airport-- with kids, I'm trying to avoid that. I know my family. Standing in ATN's big ole line with no air that late at night.... eek. Recipe for complete family meltdown. In the end, I decided to get over my hesitation about Air Moorea. So it crashed. Once. They figured out the problem. I shouldn't be freaked out that it crashed just a couple of weeks after I was on it, right? So now we will spend the day at the Moorea Pearl and pop back over on one of the last flights out of Moorea. Perfect-- except for that flying part ;)

You're right, Zoe. It was only one flight that crashed and they've fixed the problem on all of the planes (and now they have co-pilots, too). I know what you mean, though, as we were a bit hesitant on our Tahiti to Moorea flight with Air Moorea, but the pilots are so relaxed until it's time to land and then they're all business. I can't imagine there's any increased risk with these flights now. They're probably the safest they've ever been.

We are still flying between Papeete and Moorea next November. We flew after 9/11 and will continue to fly Air Moorea.

I was on Moorea when the crash happened last August, flew Air Moorea back to Papeete a few weeks later, and have flown it 4 times since. All the cables have been replaced and reinforced on their planes, the flights are double-piloted, and those planes are super-inspected now! Air Moorea flew 30 years without any incidents at all before that crash, and I'm sure it will be safer than driving a car at home!
Great that you get an extra day on Moorea now!
