waverida1, the PM function has never worked. You need her email. As far as Bora Bora is concerned, start the Ramen Noodle regimen NOW. BB has to be the most expensive place on the planet. I don't usually blink at a nice place to eat, but this island is ridiculous. Have been 3 times and won't be going back anytime soon.

Years ago, I saw a Bora Bora article in a magazine. After that, I knew I wanted to have my honeymoon in Bora Bora. Well, that time is near and the reality of the cost is here. That's why I'm trying to find out how many times I need to donate blood or what the going rate for a kidney is in Mexico. I'm a non-drinker so I should get premium rates.
Seriously, it's going to be tight but I'm doing as much research as possible to make this honeymoon enjoyable.

waverida, the PM on this site doesn't work (for some strange reason it never has????) You can email me the info at bruinpatti at yahoo dot com
Thanks!
I'd love to have some kind of idea where would be a good place to stay. Also, any idea how long in advance we should reserve a room? Aside from the visiting teams fans, do lots of Vols come in from parts unknown and book up the rooms too? I just need to know if this is something I should be doing 10-11 months ahead of time, or just 5 -6 months out?
Are you a Vols fan? If so, do you go to the games often? And...any chance you'll be coming to LA for the game this year?

Actually, my lady and I just moved to Knoxville in June. We've gone to a few games but have really been busy getting settled. Now a lot of our time is spent with wedding and honeymoon planning. We're both involved in all of the planning but she's more into the wedding planning and I'm more into the honeymoon planning.
During my almost daily web searches, I've found a lot of information and am always interested to read the posts of others that have already been to Tahiti. It's really exciting and definitely something to look forward to.

Ok. Here's my situation. The boat from the Bora Bora airport docks in Vaitape. Most of the hotels are located at the south end of the main island and have shuttles to and from Vaitape. We'll be staying at the north end of the island so we don't have the luxury of shuttles. We've been told we don't need to rent a car every day but how else would we get from the north end of the main island to Vaitape? Even if we rented a car upon arrival, we'd still have to return the car to Vaitape and then figure out a way to get back to the north end of the island. Also, I'd assume all of the island activities and excursions leave from the Vaitape area or the southern end of the island.
I'm sure we could get a cab from Vaitape to the north end but wouldn't we then need to call a cab the next day if we wanted to get to where the activities and shopping areas are? For a 7 night stay, we just want to find a good combination of car / motor boat / kayak / bike rentals that won't cost a small fortune.

Well, hitch hiking is an option. I know it is very commonly done on Moorea, I wouldn't expect it to be any less common on Bora Bora.
Also I think there is some sort of le Truck that operates on Bora Bora. But not a a very frequant schedule. Maybe some one in here has more info on that.

http://www.boraboraisland.com/todo/maevas/taxi.html Boat rental listed at 10600 FCP ($140 USD).
http://www.europcar-tahiti.com/ Renault Clio/Fiat Punto listed at 10000 XPF ($134 USD).
AVIS Picanto with automatic transmission is listed at 14700 XPF ($195 USD).
The problem with the car is that I've been told the cars have manual transmission. I don't drive manual but since I do understand the concept, I could probably make it from Point A to Point B with a LOT of grinding. :-(
I guess we'll have to rent a boat for a week and hope it's not a rainy week. It'd be fun to rent a scooter while we're there to tour the island.
