I am taking the Paul Gauguin cruise leaving from Tahiti in March. I have a couple of questions.
1. we are staying on the lowest level of the ship unfortunately, deck 3. It was all that is available. It states that the room is 200 sq. feet. I have no idea how large or small that is..I'm terrible with measurements. Has anyone ever stayed in these cabins? are they little cubbyholes or are they a little roomy.? I am concerned that spending 14 days in a small room will give me claustrophobia. any advice?
2. doe my husband have to take a suit jacket? are there any formal nights on board?
Thanks for any help.

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

All the cabins up through deck 6 are the same size - the only difference is portholes on deck 3 and a window on 4-5-6. We had a guarantee for the lowest category and ended up on deck 6. The room design is clever - lots of mirrors which make it feel larger than it is. I think the main room is about 12feet long by about 10 feet wide. The bathroom is quite reasonably sized for a cruise ship (bathtub, room to turn around unlike some).
Secondly, there's so much going on that I found I really didn't spend much time in the cabin itself as I have on other cruises. Either you're at an island (and exploring), or sailing into one (where you'll want to be up on deck taking pictures). I know it's trite to say, but on this ship, it really was only for sleeping, bathing, and changing clothes.

Barcann, I read your posting on another travel website and replied to you. Trust me, you will not spend a lot of time in the cabin so it doesn't really matter!

On our 2003 cruise we intentionally booked cabins on deck 3. They were just fine. Remember with this cruise being port of call intense you really won't spend much time there. I made up a "packing list" recommondation if you our anyone is interested. Just send me an email bastian20@hotmail.com and put on there "packing list" so I know what it is about.

Jim's packing list probably answered your question regarding a jacket for your husband - he does not need one.
I too, have a husband who sometimes snores. I take earplugs that work fairly well whenever we vacation at a destination where I have no guest room to retreat to if needed. Also, if you can safely take a medication that might help "knock you out" at night that is also helpful. If you are like most of us, you will be so tired when you are ready to sleep at night that you will be able to fall asleep even if your sleeping partner is snoring.
