Patti, do you remember if you were at the CBH late Sept.-early Oct. 2004? We were staying (unhappily) at the Pearl and visited the CBH to chat with Muk, and an American couple showed us their bungalow. I've just been wondering if that was someone from this forum!

Nope, wasn't us. But we have showed our bungalow to people who have happened by the property.

graue....
In my opinion the best beach bungalow is #21. It has another bungalow (#22) attached to the backside of it, so it doesn't get near the traffic noise the others do. But I'm not sure it will fit your group. It only sleeps 3. The other beach bungalows will sleep 4-5. #23 and #26 are freestanding. #24 and #25 are attached side by side.
The downside of #21 is it is right next or to a private property and the people who own the house seems to love to burn their trash a couple days a week around 4-ish. It totally fills up the bungalow with smoke for about 20 minutes. #22 probably has the same problem, but I have not stayed in that one, so I don't know for sure. But still, the smoke a couple times a week isn't near as bad as the traffic noise in #22-26, as they back up right to the road.
As for the overwater....if you can get #40, 41, 42, they are easily the best. They are down in the annex area where the beach bungalows are. But they are VERY popular and everyone wants them. They will sleep 4-5 also.
The ones I would not suggest for Overwaters are #30 and 31. They are very near the road, near the gas station, and some noisy boats. #35 and 36 are on either side of the CBH dock and will have the Hiro's Tour boats at the dock twice daily, the boats are a bit noisy and smelly (gas fumes), but they are only there for a short time each day while loading up and unloading, so it's not a huge problem.
Overwater bungalows #32-34 look fine, as do #37-39, I have never stayed in any of them. #30-34 are free standing. #35 is also freestanding. #36-37 are joined and #38-39 are joined.
My guess is because you are all traveling together, they will give you one of the nice OWB (40,41,42), because they are in the same area as the beach bungalows. I imagine they will try to keep you all together in the same area. Make sure you email them with you situation about 2 months out and then again about a month out. That way they can hopefully put those rooms aside for you.
Yes, the road noise in the beach bungalows is high....but it isn't horrible during the middle of the night. Traffic does slow down around 9pm and pretty much no one is out driving from about 11pm-5am. Rush hour...7-9am and 4-6pm seem to be the worse. You get used to it pretty quickly....but...every so often a really loud motorcycle or a big truck comes by and you think it is going to come straight through the wall!
