Hi everyone, I'm a new member to the forum..... I'd like to say thank you to everyone that contributes to the forum, as it helps people like myself (& Fiance) who will be first time visitors to Tahiti and Moorea!! Thanks
We are travelling to FP in May 08 for our honeymoon and can't wait! We are staying the first & last night in Tahiti and 5 nights in Moorea, Sheraton(OWB). We would like some advice about food options, we are unsure whether to include a meal plan in our package or not? We wouldn't want to be limited to one place and also weighting up what would be better cost wise? Are there reasonable options ($$) like other restaurants (would like variety of foods) in the area, as we will be at the Sheraton? Are they within walking didtance? Also for Tahiti, Can we get breakfast and dinner some where other than the hotel (sofitel)?
I know it's alot of questions (& many more to come), we just want to have the the best info to make the most of it. Thanks a million to all!

Unless you can get a great deal on the meal plan, I'd skip it (or maybe go for just breakfast daily). You can walk to Pension Motu Iti and Aito's (they're side by side about 10 minutes down the road if you to turn left once you come out of the Sheraton driveway). Both have menus out front so you can see what food they offer & compare prices. There's also a burger spot on the way, but I wouldn't recommend it--we had lunch there one day & we were very unimpressed. There's also a magasin about 15 minutes to your right as you walk out of the Sheraton. It's a good place to pick up pop, snacks, etc. We were only there once, in the evening, so I'm not sure if they have baguettes, croissants, etc. for breakfast/lunch.
You can also arrange to have dinner at many different places that will come to pick you up. Just ask your concierge to make a reservation for you.

The little magasin Old Wife is talking about does sell baguettes in the morning. We would stop there in the morning, buy 2 baguettes and some cheese and be set for breakfast and lunch. We also bought beer and juice to stock our fridge at the Sheraton.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Moorea, that I wouldn't go for the meal plan at the Sheraton, you would miss out on too many great places. Our favorite 6 years ago was Alfredo's. They had a dijon Tuna dish that I have tried to recreate for the last 6 years with no luck. If you look through some of the posts on Moorea you will find many great restaurant recommendations, and as Old Wife said, the restaurants will pick you up and take you back to your hotel.

I would definitely skip the meal plan at the Sheraton. Breakfast and lunch are ok but the dinners are nothing special. There are plenty of good restaurants on Moorea many of which will pick you up and drop you back at the Sheraton.

If you're not a huge breakfast eater, you can order a la carte at the Sheraton. I did this and loved it. I alternated between waffles and french toast-- both came with fruit as well and were runing 350 - 650 cfp.
I'd definitely not eat at the hotel for dinner-- too many other outstanding and prolly cheaper options. We never tried walking left... now I'm bummed! Le Sud does pickup from the Sheraton and we love, love, love them. Our other fav was Le Bateau, but they're closed now. Te Honu Iti was very nice, but not our fav; we loved La Plantation and keep meaning to try Les Tipaniers.

Thanks for the advise. Any restaurant names you could give us that do pick-up/drop off from Sheraton?
Thanks islandboyatheart

Te Honu Iti, Aito's, Les Nouveaux Mondes, Le Mahogany and Alfredo's all pick up from the Sheraton. Of these, Les Nouveaux Mondes is my favorite.

OOOHH. Is Les Nouveax Mondes still open, or open again? Last I was there, June 2006, it looked closed.

It changed hands and was reopened. This restaurant has had quite a few owners over the years. I'll be on Moorea for several months starting Feb 24 and plan to go and eat there at least once. The best restaurant IMO at the present time is Le Mayflower
