Moorea Sheraton changing starpoint value

Just wanted to provide a heads up to any fellow SPG members out there that are planning on redeeming starpoints for a stay at the Moorea Sheraton. Effective March 4, 2008, the hotel will be raised to a category 6 hotel which will require 20 or 25K points per night for a stay depending on season. If you haven't redeemed points yet, it would be a good idea to book now before the starpoint rates go up.

Hi islandboyatheart, If this is ok to say, I found that using my AAA card got me better rates quotes at this Sheraton than my SPG.

I always thought the catagory was low for the Moorea Sheraton.
Those darn Starwood people always find a way to get me

Yeh - I figured it was a matter of time for the Moorea property to go up. When I stayed in 2004 it was 10K. Now, only 4 years later, it costs twice as much. In 2004, it cost 20K to stay at the Nui. Now, it costs 60-70K. My starpoints are worth less and less.

I travel so infrequently that the starpoint value does not have much value for me. I would rather have the discount. Meanwhile this dropping exchange rate keeps adding more to the cost of our vacation in June, really messes with the budget. Wish our schedule was flexible to wait till after the elections.
