Oh man, you guys are totally giving me the pearl lust. I've been looking for light blue ones for years. The last time we were in Tahiti we went to the Tahiti Pearl Mart and all they had were steel grey ones -- they said their stock was totally picked over after the summer holidays. I found some lovely (but not light blue)ones on Rangiroa for a good price, though.

Tahiti Pearl Market here in Hawai'i has a few light blue ones. The nicest one I saw was on a three pearl pendant along with a light creamy yellow and a light pistachio green. I have named that pendant the Easter egg pendant because it looks like three pastel Easter eggs sitting one atop the other.

Hi everyone,
I just registered and had to post this. An acquaintance came back from a cruise (I did not ask which one) and bought some great pearls from TPM in Papeete. I am a pearl fanatic, especially Tahitian pearls. And my pearls have to have colors, not the usual gray, silver or deep black ones that you mostly see. Imagine my surprise when a few months ago I was googling and found this thread that rodjune started about TPM opening in Oahu. I was happy because I was going to Hawaii in June. We were on Kauai and BI, but had 1 night on Oahu so I had to check it out. I googled Tahiti Pearl Mart and found nothing until Tahiti Pearl Market came up. Their website at the time did not have the Oahu store listed. But I found TPM in an article of pacificbizjournal. I wrote down the address and also saw their ad in "Hana Hou" (Hawaiian Airlines' magazine).
My husband was not thrilled about pearl on leather cord idea when I told him we can pick one out for him at TPM. Well, husband is converted now. We met Jean Tauhiro, Sales Manager, there. After my husband saw Jean's necklace (pearl on stainless steel), he chose his own pearl to put on leather cord.
Jean found me a pearl drop that spoke to me. It's sort of rainbow color (no, not peacock) that changes the color when you roll the pearl around. One side is purplish and magenta, the other side is pink, green, etc. TPM's price is really reasonable compared to other shops in Hawaii. Believe me, I've been to most of them on most Hawaiian islands.
We really enjoyed our visit there. I mentioned to Jean that I read about TPM here, but did not remember the poster's name. He asked whether it's Pacfic Andy.
Rodjune, thanks for the post. I wish I live there and work across the street.

Julianner, You can try www.pearlparadise.com. They are in Los Angeles. Prices are very reasonable. They have mostly finished strands, & pieces, but also sell loose pearls. Each piece of jewelry for sale is pictured. What you see is what you get, as far as Tahitians and South Sea go. The loose pearls are not pictured. You can email, call or use chat feature to check if they have blue.

Aloha Andy, Jean told me that he used to be at TC too. I agree with you, really nice guy. I am planning another visit next year, hoping airfare will go back to normal.

I run into Jean every now and then on Bishop Street in downtown. When I saw him two weeks ago, he had on that big deep green pearl on that stainless steel cord. Man, did I want something similar. I'm getting pretty good as I walk by the store every day but avoid walking in - it's just too tempting to buy something once you walk in and start looking around. The selection at TPM has no equal on the mainland.

Thought I give this post a bump.
Just got back from our Hawaii vacation. One of our stops was the Pearl Mart in Waikiki. I knew about the store from this posting. This place is completely stocked boxes and boxes of black pearls. Not quite sure what my wife bought. Two mounted pearls. And one (big) loose pearl. Are loose pearls comparatively cheaper seeing that we do not pay the Tahiti loose pearl tax?
Anyways, thanks for posting this. It was a great find.

Glad you took a look. Now that they've closed the downtown Honolulu store, I am not so tempted to buy. Good for me but not good for my wife. :)
