I had my husband Steve read your trip report and look at your pictures from Raimiti. I reminded him of who you are (we met you at the get together at Trader Vics last year), and after he read your review and saw your pictures, I was able to talk him in to going to Raimiti for a week long trip next year. We already have a trip to Moorea and Tahaa planned for this May, and we were planning on a two week road trip next year in the US, but I suggested a one week road trip and one week in Raimiti, and Steve agreed (we usually try to do do alternating years, one year we stay in the US for vacation, the next we go to Europe, FP, etc.). It didn't take much to convince him once he had read your review. Thanks for writing such a great report!!!! And your pictures are incredible.
Did you book the Raimiti part of the trip yourself? I looked on this website, and it doesn't seem to list Raimiti as one of the resorts it books. I'd like to go through an agent for flights, etc., but don't know if that's possible if we are only going to Raimiti (and possibly a night in Tahiti if required because of the flight times).
Also, how was snorkeling in the pass? I posted before about being a weak swimmer, and wanted to get your opinion on whether I should be worried at all.
Thanks in advance!
Carrie

Hi Carrie, yep, I remember you guys. Yes, I booked it myself. I did it through their website, Raimiti.com and then I used my agent to book the air portions. Email me at bruinpatti at yahoo dot com when you get a chance. Yes, it is possible to only stay at Raimiti, but because there is only 1 flight daily to Fakarava, it takes quite a bit of working to find an arrival time in Tahiti and a departure time to Fakarava to line up.....and the also on your return, you don't want to get back to Tahiti too early in the day and have to hang around all day until your flight. You may have to change your stay from a week to 6 days or maybe 8 to make things work out best and you just might have to do a night in Tahiti, we did.
I am also not a very strong swimmer and I was a bit worried about the pass too. It is very easy to do the pass. There is practically no swimming involved at all. We didn't even wear our fins, just a pair of water shoes. If I can figure out how to post a video, I have a about a 12 minute video of the pass. You will see in it how easy it is. You really do very little. We stayed very near the inside coral wall rather than be out over deeper water in the pass. The current isn't real strong, just enough to take you along. When we did it Maluha stayed to our right on the inside of the pass and Patea to our left over the deeper water. They acted as our boundaries. We just made sure we stayed inside of them.

There are travel agents who will book Raimiti for you. We'll be there in June this year and we booked Raimiti thorugh our travel agent. One thing that we found out is that just because a travel agent's website does not list a pension, it does not mean that they cannot book a place for you. We also encountered some travel agents who "don't have a contract" with Raimiti and as such would not book our stay there. It never hurts to ask...

Oh how nice it is to be able to book Raimiti through a website. Back in the summer of 2005, we crafted a letter in French to Eric, kindly begging him to let us come visit Raimiti while they were still in the midst of finishing the place for their grand opening. Not only is Raimiti unique for a pension, but the entire southern Fakarava area is unforgettable.

What wonderful news. We were hoping to get to Raimiti this year but that bouncing boat trip would not be the best for my new back fusions. :(

For those of you who have been to Raimiti. How is Raimiti pronounced? Is it raymetee?

Rah-ee-mee-tee. I find if I say it fast, it comes out Rye-mee-tee.

In good weather, the boat ride is like riding on glass. If you get bad weather, oh my. I remember a post from someone who was heading to Motu Aito pension on the south pass and it was a three hour boat ride from hell. Better to wait until you're all healed.
