Ten years ago we spent our 20th anniversary at the Hotel Bora Bora and was amazed by the resort and service. We have traveled quite extensively and still this was our "fantasy" vacation. We have the photos to prove it!!!

Now it's time for our 30th and we want to go back (we were married VERY young!) and I was wondering if the resort is still as spectacular as it was 10 years ago.

Any opinions out there?

Congratulations on 30 years of marriage!

We stayed at HBB in November 2006 and fell in love with it, and it will be the only place for us to stay on return trips to Bora Bora. While we were there, the couple in the OWB next to us was revisiting for their 25th anniversary and stayed in the same room they were in for their honeymoon. They loved it just as much then as they did 25 years ago.

We also met a couple that has been back 10-15 times since their honeymoon (I think they'd been married about 20 years). For them, HBB is the only place they stay on BB.

The rooms were lovely in our opinion. We've heard some say the rooms are "dated" but I personally think that may just be the though of what the newer resorts have . . . very large rooms, plasma tvs, luxury everything. HBB is still a treat. If I wanted a room larger than large with a plasma TV, well, I could get that almost anywhere. I love the charm of HBB, and no tv in the room. The activities fare has tv, dvd player, pool table, games etc. And it was fun to go over and socialize with other guests. The staff was fabulous. We're just average folks that work hard to be able to have a nice vacation, but to the staff, it always seemed we were #1 priority. They were all incredibly friendly and we still keep in touch with a few of them.

The resort was supposedly full when we were there, but it never appeared to be.

It still fantastic. I was there about 5 years ago and was not very happy. Went back two years ago and have been back three times since. Thomas gave me a push to go back and I am glad they did. Its very nice and more traditional but very relaxing and great service. The new mega resorts are nice but a little much for me.

PA - you said it better than I could when you said the new places are a "little much for me."

This is great to hear, as we are planning our first stay at HBB (fourth stay at BB). It should be interesting to compare HBB with Club Med, Le Meridien, Pearl and Thalasso.

Thanks for all the opinions--we loved Hotel Bora Bora when we went 10 years ago--and can't wait for our trip this year. We like the relaxed, authentic atmosphere of the resort. Any advice on activities to do? We did the jet ski tour and the sunset sail last time--also new restaurants? We liked the hotel and Bloody Mary--

I would definitely get reservations for Villa Mahana! Fantastic dining experience- try the Royal Menu!

We have been to Bora Bora twice and love the private snorkeling/shark/ray feeding and private motu picnic. Expensive, but so worth it.

Thanks for the names of restaurants--where is the Villa Mahana located? Is it at one of the other resorts or in town? Is the Royal menu at that restaurant?

Travcarib--was that ONE activity that you mentioned--the private snorkeling/shark/ray feeding and private motu picnic? Sounds amazing!!

Travelgirl, congrats on your 30th anniversary! We stayed at HBB for our honeymoon last May and just LOVED IT. Their secret is their genuine and warm service, always with a smile. When you arrive, make sure you meet with Tara, the hotel's activities manager, and she will be able to hook you up with any of the excursions/activities you like. She was one of the nicest people we met there.

If you'd like, you should check out my rather lengthy trip report about HBB over in the Trip Report thread. There's a link to our photos there too. I think my trip report was so long because there were just so many superlatives to describe how wonderful HBB is.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and anniversary celebration. I'm quite envious of you!

That activity is called the Private Motu Picnic/Snorkeling tour (or something like that) on the Activities sheet. It is a half day activity.

It consists of just the two of you and your tour guides taking you to 4 stops. 1st- snorkeling in the coral gardens, 2nd snorkeling/feeding sting rays in shallow water, 3rd shark feeding/snorkeling in the deeper water right outside the lagoon, 4th stop on a private motu for an amazing lunch set on a table IN the water! You also get a circle tour around Bora Bora as well. I love this tour and think if you can only do one this is a great one to do because you get so much out of it! You can also purchase a video of your trip at the end for an additional fee.

Lots of companies offer this tour, I think each hotel works with different groups, but the hotel will probably have it on the activities sheet!

It is so great!!!
