Hi All,
I started planning for our honeymoon over a year ago and it is now 3 months away - we are both so excited!!! I have a few questions regarding Moorea and The Sheraton Moorea that I wanted to consolidate in one post to get opinions. You'll also see me posting in the Bora Bora forum as well to finalize some details for that portion of the trip. So for the Moorea portion of our trip here are some of the details which may be helpful to know. We arrive in PPT at 5 AM from LAX and our flight to Moorea departs at 9 AM, arriving at 9:10 AM (the earlier flights were sold out). So on to the questions I have:
- I made my reservation with the hotel directly as I wanted to use my SPG points - I have many email correspondences with the hotel. What do I have to do to get an official confirmation from the hotel? The confirmation is not available at spg.com since the reservation was made directly with the hotel.
- What is the best way to arrange transportation from the Moorea airport to the Sheraton Moorea, and back from the Sheraton Moorea to the Moorea airport? The hotel has told me that for a shuttle bus I need to let them know my travel details to Moorea (Plane / Boat and Time). The hotel will then ask for a shuttle bus to wait for us. It cost 550 cfp per person during day time. What is your suggestion on arranging transportation between the airport and hotel? Should I arrange through the hotel or I remember reading somewhere else that you can purchase transportation vouchers at the airport?
- We are staying in a premium overwater bungalow at the Sheraton Moorea and the hotel has told me that these are the 4th last bungalow of each section. Now, I know that everyone has their own opinions on these bungalows but for the Premium Overwater bungalows are there any that you recommend, and if so why? The hotel has told me that I can request a specific number and they will do their best to accommodate me. In addition, in looking at the map of the hotel I wanted to get opinions on the length of the walk that it is to the premium overwater bungalows. From the map it looks like a long walk - are they really far and will it be annoying to walk between the premium overwater bungalows and the beach / pool / main hotel area?
- Since this is for our honeymoon, are there any special honeymoon amenities that I can expect from the Sheraton Moorea?
- What has everyone's experience been with arriving early at this hotel - we will definitely be arriving way before check in due to the time of our flights! How has the hotel accommodated you and any luck with early morning check-ins?
- Finally, what is the gym / fitness center like at this hotel?
Thanks For All The Help.

1) I would assume you could just confirm directly with the Sheraton.
2) I'd accept their offer of arranging your shuttle from and to the Moorea Airport. 550cfp per person is a good rate (we just paid 600cfp per person when it was booked by our pension a few months ago). I don't think booking it at the Moorea Airport would be any cheaper either (I think 600cfp is the going rate for them, too).
3) Sorry, I can't answer about distances since we only walked around the Sheraton a few times, but didn't stay there. It didn't seem too far to us, but that's a personal opinion (we're walkers so distances within resorts don't seem like much to us).
4) Ditto re honeymoon services (haven't stayed there), but in our experience, most resorts give you a welcome basket and/or gifts (t-shirts, pareos) if they know it's your honeymoon. Heck, we got them at both resorts we stayed at even though it wasn't ours.
5) Most (all?) resorts will let you use a room to change and wash up so you can sit by the pool or beach while waiting for your room to get ready (sometimes you can even get into the room early if it wasn't occupied the night before). Make sure to pack sunscreen and bathing suits in your carry-on luggage for that.
6) I didn't see the gym/fitness centre.

I have not stayed at the Sheraton. But I can answer a couple of your questions.
The ground transfers...when you check in at the Air Moorea counter, ask for ground transfers. You must purchase enough for both legs of your trip at that time, as they are not available once you get to Moorea. So if there are just the 2 of you, you would need to purchase 4 transfers. I think they are about 600xpf's each way.
It is very likely your room will not be ready for you when you arrive at the Sheraton, especially since you are arriving in the prime season and are staying in a prime OWB. It will likely not be vacated by the prior occupants until 11 and then will still have to be cleaned. So it is unlikely you will gain access until sometime between 1 and 3. I would advise you to pack your swimsuit and some sunscreen either in your carry on or right on top of your luggage so it will be quick and easy to find. Change into your swimsuit in the restroom, slap on some sunscreen, and head to the pool, beach, or whatever for the rest of the morning (and possibly early afternoon), have the front desk hold your luggage until check in time. Grab some breakfast, have lunch, take a snooze in a lounge chair to help pass the time.
I'm sure someone else can help with the Sheraton specific questions.

I have stayed at the Sheraton Moorea three times using points. Usually, I call the spg customer service # and they book for me, then my account is updated by them to reflect the trade, and I get a confirmation emailed to me from spg. I did the same for the Bora Bora Nui- which came in handy when the hotel tried to put me into a different type bungalow than the one I had booked (hillside instead of beach). Having the confirmation printout enabled them to realize their mistake and helped to resolve things. Just because the spg website says you have to call to trade points, it doesn't mean you have to call the hotel directly although obviously that's an option. Due to the time difference and sometimes the language issues, to me it's easier to deal with the spg customer service and I've done this for Category 5, 6 or 7 hotels in several countries.
As far as the walk from the OWB to the beach or pool, it's a short walk- no more than 5 minutes.

The walk can be long but that's relative, and it's beautiful to walk over the water, so it's not that bad. Honeymooners get an amenity - we got a half bottle of champagne and a sweet dessert plate. Make sure that "honeymoon" appears on your reservation. The gym is across the road and is small but fine if there aren't too many people in there. My recommendation is skip the gym and take a nice leisurely swim the lagoon for your exercise. I was a gym-nut when I went on my honeymoon but had no desire for the gym once I saw how great the lagoon was for swimming.

Your thinking way too much. Dont worry, your getting the room free. The walk is short unless you have a condition and if your asking about the gym I must assume you dont. Besides they have a bar half way to break up the walk. The gym is some tredmills and some old broken weights. Requesting rooms doesnt work and I am sure they will not put a paying customer in the requested room before a points award.

PA, I love that idea - break up my walk to the gym with a quick drink at the bar - now why didn't I think of that?

50 calories burned walking to bar, 50 calories burned walking from bar - the way I figure it, he's 50 cals short - that's a diet.
