Does anyone know if Manua Poterie is still open? I tried to check out the web site but the website isn't working anymore.

It was open last time we were on Tahiti, in Nov. 2007. Closed during lunch hours, 12-2 p.m. If you are looking for those gorgeous blue pottery dishes (the kind they use at Raimiti), you can also buy them on Moorea near Le Petit Village, in a store called ENATA (on the mountainside, just south of Petit Village).
Try this contact info for Manua Poterie: this web address worked for me! Atelier Manua poterie Contact : Tél: 42 74 30 - 79 91 99 M@il : manuatahiti@mail.pf
Localisation : Pirae Tahiti
Site web : www.manua-poterie.com

Thanks Barbi. Does Enata carry a decent selection of pottery? It would nice if I could buy it on Moorea since we are going there last and it would save me from either having to store it or lug it around for the whole trip.

Island Boy, Enata does not have NEARLY the selection that's available at Manua Poterie, but they do have some nice individual pieces of the blue/tan and aqua/tan vases, candleholders, turtles, and some cups/bowls. They do not have a large variety of the dinnerware, if that's what you are looking for. It will all depend who gets there ahead of you, and how recently they got their current order in.
By the way, if you wind up buying $100 worth or more of pottery (or anything else in the store), ask them to fill out the tourist VAT exemption form for you (just like a pearl store would do), and it will save you 16% of the posted price! They give you 3 copies, and you turn two in at the customs desk behind security at the Faaa airport when you are departing for home. Enata has done this for us several times, and Manua should be able to do it too if you ask.

I have been to this place. Its still around. He has odd hours. I met the guy a few years back and he wanted to import to the US. He doesnt do enough volume for full scale importing. More specialty stuff. Very nice guy who speaks limited English

Thanks guys and thanks for the tip Barbi. It isn't hard with the poor dollar to spend $100 - probably can get 3 coffee mugs for that. I will probably check out both places since I'm looking at getting some plates, bowls and cups.

Island Boy, You are right. We bought 3 coffee mugs last year at 2500 cpf apiece = 7500 cpf. At the current exchange rate, that's about $100 USD right there! If you visit Enata when you first arrive on Moorea, they may have time to order some special requests for you in time before you leave Moorea. They ordered a large vase for us last time, got it in about 4 days.

Island Boy,
I found another store on Moorea that sells the Manua Poterie from Pirae. It's called "Rev Deco" and is located in the "Cook's Bay Center," in a little shop in a strip mall diagonally across the street from Kaveka Hotel (nearby where the cruise ships dock in Cook's Bay). I took some photos of their display that I can send to you if you email me at BarbiJKM@aol.com. They have a larger selection than Enata does right now, and their prices seem to be nearly the same as at Manua.

The pottery you are talking about at Raimiti is made by Teva Yrondy who had his wonderful pottery and pearl shop just down from Kaveka on Cook's Bay. However, I have heard that his ex-wife had claimed all his property and he has had to move to Raiatea. Will check on this when we go to Moorea and Raiatea in September..
