Figuring out how busy a resort will be?

Short of asking the hotel directly (yeah.... obvious route... will do), does anyone have any clever ways to guesstimate somewhat accurately how "full" a resort will be? We're staying at the IC Tahiti for three nights and then the Moorea Pearl for a week, and will be upgraded at at least the first if there is "availability" for the premium lagoon overwaters. I know the Moorea Pearl tends to get quite full during the low season-- presumably, all those specials they run. The last time we were there, they had apparently been quite, quite industrious selling pre/post-cruise packages. We're in Tahiti Thurs-Sat and then Moorea Sun - Sat.

The only thing I can suggest and we have done this for flight upgrades for my husband, we go online and try to book the category we are looking for, ie: first or business class on a flight. If it is still showing online as available, we cancel the booking before we get to the payment page. I have also tried this for package caribbean holidays, when wanting a specific room category to accommodate all 4 of us in one room. Good luck.

At the IC Tahiti they book a lot of pre and post cruise options. Since the PG comes in on Saturday morning its usually full of post and pre cruisers. Moorea should be fine. All the hotels in FP are hurting because of lack of US customers.

I read in Tahiti Press that tourism had dropped but I didn't realize it was that bad.

I'm in Moorea as I post this. Tourism is in the toilet along with the US dollar. The best restaurants are at best 1/3 full.

Me too, here in FP now, and it is a ghost town on Moorea. The ATN flight was about 1/3 full. Quiet....
Hamara, we'll see you soon!

Wow - that's really sad to hear. I hope the businesses can hang on - difficult enough when it's busy, let alone when it's slow.

It was really quiet on Moorea when we were there in Feb. It's always pretty quiet that time of year, but it was exceptionally quiet this time. Only 14 rooms were booked at Club Bali Hai while we were there, and the following week was scheduled to have even less. Our flight from Moorea to Papeete on Saturday evening had a grand total of 8 people on it.
I'm curious to see what it will be like in May.

She's a real sweetie Glen. Has such a beautiful smile...it just lights up the place. And she has such a great laugh. She was a real delight to meet. I look forward to visiting with her again when I go in May. Although I figure I'll just be able to stop by teh Blue Pineapple every day to say hi...'cause I'm not going to be able to afford to eat there! LOL!
