Alright, unless you're a major fish freak. If you are, stay elsewhere or take Thomas Marshall's advice from another post and arrange for a custom snorkeling tour of the island.

It is a nice resort, but it also takes some planning to get into town. The boat drop off isn't all the way into Vaitape and the van shuttle schedule has confounded more than one board poster.
Snorkeling is nice, but nothing to knock your flippers off. Some coral and some fish, but not the natural aquarium of other places/islands/atolls. If I recall correctly your other half has been to the Maldives? I've not been there, but rumor has it to be outstanding almost everywhere. I think he'd be disappointed unless he knows what the trade off is.) If he demands major fish at deck side, The Pearl pricing isn't that far off of the Sofitel Motu. SM is is FF central these days barring a custom snorkeling trip outside the reef or a altogether different island. Best FF deal I've seen is either the standard BB at the Manihi Pearl (around $300 a night. Just walk down the boat dock to hop in the water) or the pensions of Fakarava or Rangiora.
What is the budget for the trip? If he's a serious snorkeler/diver you might do 4 nights in Bora and then another 4-6 nights in the Tuamotu at a cheaper resort (everything in FP is cheaper than Bora) or a pension. If you book a pension, just have your TA book the air pass you need but skip booking some hotel nights. Many TA's will do this because they're still getting the majority of the trip.

Actually it sounds kind of high. Figure flights per person is $1,300 and inter island about $300 per person. That leaves you with $900 per night. Thats high even with food. It also depends on when you are going
