I have been looking at the Raiatea Lodge and as good as that looks, the couple we will be going with cannot do more than two or three steps so second floor rooms are out. The Hawaiki Nui overwaters would be ideal since the other man gets too warm even in a/c beach bungalows. But they sure are pricey!
We stayed at the Sunset Beach Motel which was about 20 bungalows facing the beach (all five feet of it) and though we loved it, it probably would be too rustic for our friends.

The Raiatea Lodge Hotel has a 2 bedroom (I believe) suite on the ground floor. Check it out and see if would work for your friends.

We have decided, due to the need for good breezes, to stay at the Hawaiki Nui. They must be hurting for customers because they have offered us four nights for the price of two in a regular OWB, and an upgrade to premium for a total $85. Sounds good to me.

We will have to rent a car for a couple of those days, or maybe we can borrow one from friends, but we do want to share some of the island that we have known recently since our friends haven't been there since it was the Bali Hai. The weather was awful and they left after a day and a half...
